Does coconut oil moisturize? I wear my hair straight and don't like to moisturize because my hair will revert. I've been using serums and hot six oil....

Coconut oil does not moisturize because it doesn't have water. It does condition/nourish which does give similar results. Coconut oil penetrates the hair and helps to slow protein loss, it also makes the hair shiny. If you hair is already well moisturized and strengthened by your DC's before you straighten, than using coconut oil afterward to keep your hair in good condition is probably fine. A lot of people do it and love it.

Any consensus on the best coconut oil to use? And best smelling. Spectrum? Vatika? There's so many

Well Vatika is coconut oil mixed with other stuff and I personally wouldn't use that.

I usually buy whatever is on sale at whole foods as long as it's organic, virgin, unrefined, cold pressed, and hexane free. It shouldn't have preservatives because coconut oil can last for 2 or more years without going rancid.

They all pretty much smell the same to me, very light coconut smell that goes away once it's on my hair.. They do not smell like the organix coconut line because that is filled with synthetic fragrance, it's a fake coconut smell.

Also, read the link about naturals using coconut oil, I'm sure there are more suggestions in there.

HILLYTMJ AND AJACKS,
The sewins worked for you all. You both have gorgeous hair!

The most important thing that I forgot to mention is that you must continue your healthy hair habits with a sew-in. I didn't feel comfortable washing/styling it myself, so I went to the salon every week to get it washed, conditioned and styled. I started with a straight weave, but it took too long to dry with a rollerset. My preference was curly weave because the curly hair didn't have to be "set" and could airdry. Whenever I sat under the dryer, it was only to dry the front portion of my "real" hair that was outside of the weave. My braided hair (underneath the weave) would often airdry.

Here is a pic of my "curly weave" days. It was a lot of fun, and it definitely took my mind off of worrying about how fast or slow my real hair was growing underneath.

OP so far you've received a lot of good advice, I'll also advice you to read the threads MSA compiled for you. They are filled with good info, you can find virtually all you need to know in those threads.

Good luck and happy hair growing
