How do You manage to take care of your hair? I'm on rotating shifts...so on my nightshifts I struggle to maintain keeping my hair moisturized. Any Tips for a Newbie?

BTW this is my first Thread

Welcome  I wear my hair in a bun or a braid or a pony tail with a braid. I do not wear my hair out at all when I work. I think its unsanitary :perplexed and can get in the patients food and personal hygiene items depending on how much one sheds.

As of this time I dont have mositure issues but Im sure others can help you out in that area :yep:

Hi. :)

I wear my hair up at all times too. I co/water wash about once or twice (usually once) a week and leave conditioner in my hair. This is enough to keep my hair moisturized. I have no moisture issues.

I use Giovanni conditioners to co wash and as a leave in.

For updos you could use Goody Spin Pins, hair sticks, Flexi 8's, claw clips with smooth edges, Ficcares/clips, and Hair Zings to comfortably hold the hair up without breakage.

Not an RN but I do work in a hospital. How long is your hair? I never have it down in the hospital. It's always in a puff or some kind of updo if it's my hair or in a bun if my hair is in braids. Like somebody mentioned up above hospitals are nasty and I want to get as little of it on my hair as possible. That means protective styles all the time

I wear my hair in a horizontal french twist. I have a colleague who, when she's on call, has her hair rolled or twisted up with a pretty surgical scrub cap on. She's a surgeon and it looks perfectly natural to have her hair covered this way.

Thanks for the insight, I do leave my hair in a bun type style, my hair almost CBL...but my problem is more on the nightshift when I'm doing 2-3 shifts in a row, how do you guys manage to stay on track?

I work straight nights. I don't do much to my hair. I just put it up for work and when I get home I shower (I don't always wash my hair though), put my hair into one braid, put a night cap on, and go to bed.

If I wash my hair, I do it on an off day or very early in the morning on a work day so that it has ample time to dry. Conditioner is my only moisturizer and nothing else.

If my hair is a little frizzy, I sometimes take a little bit of conditioner, dilute it with water, and smooth it over my hair to eliminate frizz.

That bun/ponytail (or right now a puff) is a lifesaver. When I go to bed I'll tie the edges up with a scarf and put a sleep cap on top so when I wake up I don't have to worry about styling my edges. When I get on a roll like that I wash and DC my hair on my days off

Thanks, I will try this on the weekend. I have just started to take my hair journey REALLY SERIOUSly, so I need all the help I can get!

THANKS AGAIN! EVERYONE! i feel <3'd!

I work the dreaded night shift as well. You just make your self moisturize the hair and tie it up as soon as you come home before you go to sleep. It's a matter of priorities...like bathing or brushing your teeth. I get home and take down the french twist, put on some Bee Mine Luscious and put it up in two side twists with the Good Hair Days pins. Is this what you mean?

Yes It is! Thanks! I guess I just need the encouragement :blush3:

I'm not an RN but work in a hospital and do night shifts sometimes. I usually moisture and seal before I go to work (days where I am at work by 7PM) on those days. On those days where I get home by 7P (day shift), I M&S before bed. And it's always in my PS (bun) while at work. Less fuss
