Everytime I self relax, my hair is left underprocessed. My aunt saw my hair 1 day after my attempt to self relax and asked how long was it since my last "perm"

Sorry I didn't have any suggestions but I would like some tips as well.

I texlax, so far so good. I practiced with conditioner first. I make sure that I have enough new growth to smooth in the relaxer without overlapping onto the already processed hair.

I start at the thickest part of my hair which is the back left middle (for me) and I do my nape and sides last. I always base my scalp with base that is designed to prevent burns. A little goes a long way. I only leave the relaxer on for 5-7 minutes before neutralizing (several times) until the water runs clear (not pink).

I'm going to incorporate a reconstructor into my next touch up (before the neutralizing shampoo). Then I deep condition.

My hair comes out thick, shaky and healthy. I hope this helps. Doing my own hair has been a blessing and it saves me money. I also do my own trims!

My best suggestion is tell the salonist how ur scalp is: if ur tender headed: or have a sensitive scalp: so she can put the proper one on ur hair: if u don't want bone straight hair: usually wat i'll do is pretend my scalp is burning so she can wash it out: lol:lol:

EbonyPerez, I would strongly suggest you set up a consultation with the stylist that is going to be applying the relaxer to talk about your hair, what you need done, to see if the person is even knowledgebale about relaxers, and for him/her to look at the condition of your hair before applying chemicals. He/she may be able to recommend a good brand that would work for what you are looking for.

If you wanted to go above and beyond, it wouldn't be a bad idea to even just get your hair washed and set by this person a week or so before to see if you like the work done, and if you trust the person.

Good luck, keep us posted.

I too would suggest the consolution with the stylist and maybe get the chance to watch her put in a relaxer. But my mom used phyto when she bc-ed and then relaxed... she used index 1 but her hair is very loose/wavy type texture. Depending on how much thick ness u want she determine which strength u use.
HTH
GOOD LUCK!!!!

I think it depends on your hair's texture and the amount of straightness you want. I use I; however, many ladies use II.
