I started on this forum in 2003 and I was like a child in a sweetshop, I tried every product mentioned, even horse hair grower :bud::cowgirl:, every protective style from baggie to literally knoting my hair together. I hate to think how much money I spent and hair I lost, hey its different stokes.............The problem I had was the horrid Affirm Fibreguard (no Lye) I was using was making my hair dry at the time I blamed everthing but that :wallbash:

I did manage to turn my hair around, check out my fotki...I went from severely damaged to lust then the length started to come. Anyway long story short I fell off and have been wearing a bob for years.

I have started my journey 10 weeks ago, vitimans, decent relaxer and a 9 week stretch, no direct heat, and a VERY SIMPLE regime..

My hair is ok shape now:ohwell:, but I know EXACTLY what it likes and now it has the best chance ever of growing and retaining,
I am so excited to see what happens :thewave:

I officially started my hair journey almost a year ago and I am STILL wandering around like a lost child.

Some days I know exactly what I am doing, and other days you would think I had amnesia. I just step back and am like "what in the world am I doing again??". But I think things will start to click soon enough.
Before, I just wanted long healthy relaxed hair, then I decided to transition to natural (with long hair), and now I just want to transition with hair on my head. lol It's definitely a process, and sometimes you need to start off with very humble goals to get to the bigger ones.

I'm going to admit it. I have been on here since 06:blush: and still have not even made my first milestone, shoulder length. Actually, I did make just barely touching shoulder for a few months in 08, but it broke right back off. I actually went back and did a search and looked at my old posts when i was in the Shoulder length 06, 07, 08, 09, and now 2010 challenges!:nono:

During most of this time, I was in grad school, interning and living in different cities alot of the time. So, I would get on a good path, get busy or stressed and fall off. Or let someone in a new city relax my hair. I'd do protective styles and avoid heat for long periods of time (and look a hot mess while doing it), only to have it still not have much progress. I've tried everything under the sun with my hair (baggying, heat, no heat, jherri curl juice, mtg, roller sets, dominicans, phyto relaxer, etc) , esp when I first hit the boards.

The reason I am hoping that this is the last time is bc this time I'm going natural. I am hoping that not weakening my already fragile hair with chemicals will help me to at least get to a healthy consistent shoulder length. I don't want hair down to my butt. SL or at longest APL would be cool for me.

I've been here since '07. NO MORE BC's!!!! I'm tired of shaving it off when reaching sl. I do get good growth at a slow rate  but I always seem to have to cut it right back off. It's 2010 and I have officially put my shears up! My mission is to nurture and keep a healthy scalp for growth.

Re: Any recently re-started their Hair Journey and know they gonna get there, this ti

I was already on a healthy hair journey but after a couple botched cuts, I got serious in Oct or Nov 09. I am about to be sl and really would love to reach my goal of bsl, which I've been trying to reach lliikkee my whole life. :look:

Yes maam,
Transitioned for 7 months last year then caved in and got a relaxer.
Now i'm growing it out and trying to make it a year, but I'll see how I feel in Dec.

Re: Any recently re-started their Hair Journey and know they gonna get there, this ti

Yes that's me. When I first joined I was obsessed with hair stuff! But after a couple of years I got some growth and got lazy and had to cut, then grew another head with wigs, then life happened and then I discovered the ET forum : ). Anyhoo, I am fully back on the wagon again, but hopefully I won't be chopping my hair off in 3 years.

Re: Any recently re-started their Hair Journey and know they gonna get there, this ti

ME! I first found hair boards back when I was a freshman in high school ('02-'03) and have hit many bumps in the road, but my final start over was my 2nd BC on August 15, 2009. I refuse to relax my hair again and I am better educated on the care of color treated hair so I am extremely confident that I WILL reach my goal of WL on this leg of my hair journey.

ETA: I had a 2 inch TWA back in August and I'm already SL again, so I'd say I'm off to a good restart.

Yup! I chopped inches off of my hair making it even. I restarted my hair journey in dec 2009 and It's been going well ever since.

Thanks this is a great thread.

I have been APL since 12/08. Everytime I make some progress, I get lazy or start experimenting. In Jan/Feb I suffered A MAJOR SETBACK, I won't go into details but it involved a corrective relaxer and too much time on my hands. I really want to get this healthy hair thing going but I keep having to start over. Hopefully, I can get it right this time..................after I decide on going natural or staying relaxed.

Kizzylonghair, you and I have the same start date:). I feel like I am restarting my hair journey as well. I am transitioning and currently in kinky twists. I loved this style at first but I am now oh so tired of them and want to wear my own hair. I feel like I will take them out any day now and just go ahead and bc. I cannot believe that December will mark my 6th year on this board! I am ready to start anew :yep: with a positive attitude.

OP, We seem to have had a similar experience! I also joined in 2003 and went crazy, hopped on every bandwagon (btw whatever happened to LUST, Surge, Salerm etc) and my hair was healthier. My goal was to get past shoulder length. Once I did that I got bored and got busy with life in general and stopped coming on the forum. I've had an inverted bob for the past 2 years but have been bored with relaxed hair. So 10 weeks ago, I re-joined and started transitioning and have discovered a new world of products and techniques since coming back and I'm enjoying this new journey.

Re: Any recently re-started their Hair Journey and know they gonna get there, this ti

Me. I joined in 2003 as well. I had went natural earlier that year and had just found hair boards. However I didn't really stick around or read anything substantial here as I was on another hair board where length wasn't a priority. I cut my hair off about 4 different times between then and now. I'm on a "no-cut" mission for now, trying to get some length to enjoy before my next drastic change. :look:

Re: Any recently re-started their Hair Journey and know they gonna get there, this ti

I have restarted growing my hair out so many times in my life I have lost count. I reach a certain length (13-15" all around) then get bored and neglectful. Chopping to a TWA is no big deal for me and I hate getting my hair done. This time, I want to get over this hump-no more chopping!

Re: Any recently re-started their Hair Journey and know they gonna get there, this ti

*Raises hand*

I joined in Aug 07 after BCing a year prior and getting fustrated with my natural hair and doing a bad texlax with no-lye (can we say dryyyy?). After seeing all the beautiful natural heads here I strated transitioning again. Found some good products and was going great up until about 7 months in. I started experimenting with too many things at once, plus had protein over-load and did not realize it at the time. So I got pissed of and did a BC.... again:rolleyes:. I was still trying too much stuff and not addressing my hard water issue so my hair was still dull and dry.

Then in Dec 08 I cut it super short and texturized it with mild no-lye (still had not made the connection). I kept it short, but started using lye and a chealting shampoo on a regular basis. My hair began to turn around. See my March 09 pic in siggy.

Seeing that improvement re-motivated me. I got serious about growing my hair again. I've learned what works and what doesn't. and this time because I've been relaxed and natural, I know how to maintain both, so no matter what I do with it I will still grow to my goal of WL.

I am still somewhat of a PJ :drunk:, but an educated one. I only splurge on products that address my hair's needs and have only ingredients my hair likes. If I do try something new, its after alot, alot of research in the LHCF archives and asking questions.

I'm kinda glad it turned out this way though. I have learned soooo much about all textures of hair. I feel like I'm at Hair University.

I plan to graduate with WL honors in the next 3 years

Re: Any recently re-started their Hair Journey and know they gonna get there, this ti

Yep. After a two-year battle with postpartum shedding, I cut off more than 6 inches and I am back to shoulder length.

Re: Any recently re-started their Hair Journey and know they gonna get there, this ti

It's sad because Im just noticing how much hair I've lost this year compared to how much I had last year when comparing pics. The crazy thing is all I did was complain about my hair so it's a sad case of you dont know what you have until it's gone, lol.
Im working on paying more attention to my hair and deep conditioning it to bring it back to it's thickness and growing.
