My newgrowth is so hard to manage because it grows in so hard and dry. It's almost as if my roots lock up - it tangles that much. Does anyone know of any products that would help make my newgrowth softer? :perplexed

i strongly suggest using s curl. i have very coarse dry 4b hair and it is the only thing that softens my hair. if it works on my hair it can work on anybody's. i wish i knew about it when i was relaxed because i had the same problem you do and i lost a lot of hair because the new growth was so hard. go to target and buy the small $2 bottle so just in case you dont like it you didnt spend much money.

Girl I KNOW what you're going through! I use s-curl, that way I can spray the moisturize onto my new growth without being too invasive. No manipulation required to moisturize the nappy roots:D

I suggest Extend-A-Perm. Works well for me!

I second the S-Curl recommendation. I like to spray it on my new growth, seal with coconut oil and put on a scarf for the night. It really tames the NG.

im currently using MTG. do u think the s-curl will interfere with it?

Co-signing on the S-Curl. It works very well on relaxed hair :yep: --unless, of course, you prefer to wear your hair straighter as it is a curl activator.

Neena, I don't think it would interfere with MTG. I didn't have any problems during my MTG experiment in April/May. But, perhaps some more ladies will have some input?.... :)

S curl is good. Another suggestion is a half half mixture of infusium and water in a spray bottle also does the trick. I also use MTG and it does not interfere with that

Hey neena, you sound like my hair twin my newgrowth is a NIGHTMARE I mix s-curl with WGO and it seems to soften it alot.

cosigning on the scurl. I just discovered it last week and it works wonders for the ng. My hair feels soft and actually stays soft for the entire day! Thats unheard of for my head. Just dont use too much it will make your hair sticky.

Thank you Locobouthair for suggesting S-curl for the new growth. I was just about to give up on my 6 month stretch (I'm at month 3) and get a re-touch. I tried the S-curl on my new growth and it is tamed now. :)

Deep Conditioning with Keracare Humecto (tub) and applying Sta So Fro really softens my rough newgrowth.

For straight styles I use PCJ NewGro Hairdress (has mineral oil so watch out with putting it on the scalp if u dont wash often), and S-Curl for ponytails and styles where you don't mind your new growth being wavy.

I've never had good results with Scurl. it does soften the roots but it leaves my hair a frizzy fuzzy mess. If you dont mind using a little heat, what ALWAYS works for me is apply a leave-in (WGO and hummectress) and i blowdry my roots. this is the only way to keep them softened so they won't break. hold your hair taut so your roots are straight as your blowdryer is aiming at it....they'll dry straight and soft...

CandiceC, is that Extend-A-Perm good? That sounds interesting... :scratchch

I was thinking the same thing. I've never heard of that, but my crown area is getting a little rough.

Love this stuff. this and a scarf for a few minutes make my 4b hairline and parts look decent without being too greezy looking:lol:.

YES, this stuff is heavy in the bottle but NOT GREASY and the softness and shine are great :)
