I tell ya, if I wasn't sure about what I have learned in my time on this board about hair care, I am now!! What I put my hair through this past week is bordering on TORTURE and it still held up. The details are in my album, but here are a couple of pics in the meantime:

Sorry these are so BIG!!! In my album they aren't this big, but on the board they showed up HUMUNGOUS! (Sorry, we watched Hook the other night)

Well, thanks, girls!
I am so uncertain with red because it brings out all the pink in my skin- maybe it's dark enough to not be an issue..

Mermaid this color looks great on you!!

is this almost like your natural color or something??? because it really matches your complexion. -- jainygirl

My natural colr is a red-based dark brown, so the red is always on the verge of coming out. All these years I have been trying to supress the red with taking out all the red tones and depositing ash colors. This time, I guess my hair was the boss!!

Looks good on you girl! You go! I guess we were doing the same thing last night! Mine looks like this in the dark but in the light it is lighter.

I like the color too! wow, u ARE lucky u still have hair bc if I did all of that Id be shopping for a wig! lol...
I ruined my hair once by only using a semipermanent haircolor too much. after that I wont do anything to my hair as far as color, but Im considering a clear cellophane.

Tonya! How funny, we sure must have been splashing around hair dye!! Too bad we live so far apart, we could have had a coloring party!

OK Mermaid...maybe this is a sign that we should be hair buddies to make sure we keep it together with this color thang...

You know, I couldn't even believe I was doing it- my son was even warning me that my hair was gonna fall out!

This was a testament to the knowledge I gained from this board and the strength of my hair!
I tell ya though; it just felt defeated after I was done and it was still wet, just like it had ran a marathon and was worn out!!
It feels fine now, though, and it's a swingin' around and all RED!!

Did u use that same textures and tones color?

No, my color was the result of 4 (yes, 4!) dye processes over the week!!
With the black dye in it, the highest lift I could get was red, and then I depostied a brown on top of the bleach. I wasn't trying for red, that was just how it ended up!

Wow! There are like 4 different colors in there, it looks really nice! I wish I was brave enough to color my hair but I'm chicken

I know!
I wanted lighter at the bangs and graduate to the black, but to have a few shades difference before the black, but it kinda ended up not liftinig all the waym, not lifting at all in some spots, totally lifting in others..
Ah well, I've never had this color before, so I'll see how I like it.

I didn't really do anything as far as a pre-con. I knew I was leading up to lightening it, but wasn't certain, but I just washed and conditioned every day with Relaxed and Natura- it works great for me as far as moisture, but the specific reason I shamppoed was so there was no product in my hair. so basically, I have spent the last few days with nothing in my hair (and it was a-flyin' all over the place).
I think the strength came from 1: genetics- my hair has always bbeen pretty strong and 2: vitamins (although I am not very diligent) and 3: dedication to moisture- what was in my album (not the color one) is the only things I use.
I knew from previous experience from coloring, what my hair could handle, but I haven't put it through THAT much of an assault before!
There really was nothing specific; like I've mentioned in many previous posts, being natural gives me a HUGE amount of freedom to do other things with my hair. If I was relaxed, I would have never done any of that, none of the other colors I've had before, either! It's just too much stress!

Hey Mermaid...have oyu started conditioning? The color is making my hair look nappy and dry. I went to the drug store on lunch and bought 3 conditioners and I am stopping at a beauty suplu on the way home...My hair is getting some special attention tonight when I get home! What is your protective style?
