Hi there!
I just wanted to introduce myself. I've come out of lurker mode and finally subscribed. Wonderful site! I'm getting used to all of the available functions now that I'm a subscriber :spinning:

I'm a transitioning 4a. My chemical recovery began when I stopped relaxing in March. I haven't BC'd. I'm too chicken. Now, my hair is making me crazy... I wish my head weren't too big for hats... On to the question!

Ok, in the middle of the back of my head, I have a good-sized patch of VERY tightly coiled hair, more coarse than the rest of my hair, but still sort of soft. I knew it was back there, but this transition is bringing out the worst in it. Most of my hair doesn't do well in heavy oil, but this patch is dryer than the rest. However, if I use more (or a heavier type) oil, I end up with an oily itchy head.

I'm in a town that doesn't have a real beauty supply much less ethnic hair care supply, but I'm making a trip soon. Any suggestions on a medium-weight oil or creme? Everything I've tried is too heavy or too light. It's just weird.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated ladies!
Thanks

Hi and welcome

Have you tried the neutregena triple moisture line? Also what types of oil have you tried that didn't work?

Welcome! One thing I can suggest is daily co-washing. SouthernTease does it and she's been transitioning w/o the big chop for like 6 months. She hasn't had any troubles with dryness or breakage and her hair's growing like a weed. She inspired me to do daily co washes (even though she doesn't know it :)) I'm about 10 weeks post and my stretch has been easy peezy :D I just co wash, put on some leave in conditioner, put my hair in a wet bun and leave it alone till the next day. Simple with wonderful results

ETA: she has her own site southerntease.net....... HHG!

Thanks BreBre,

I have used Doo Gro, WGO, Broke down and used Pink, which stays in the area but -WAY too heavy, I've even used my raw shea butter, and that has never let me down! For now, I'm spraying it with a Profectiv oil sheen just to keep it from drying too much, but I think I need a creme or something.

I know my hair is going through some things. I don't want to put protein on it because I know it will shatter my strands. I just switched to Redken All Soft, which I think will make a difference. It's just curly that it's almost matted. I don't remember my first transition being like this. Then again, I didn't pay much attention then.:ohwell:

Welcome... I am also transitioning (18 weeks post). One cream that I would recommend is Carol's Daughter Healthy hair butter. It does a great job at moisturizing my new growth. HHG
