OK -maybe they're not so amazing but my 10 year old did these for her 12 year old sister and I am so proud! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Renee,

Your 10 year old?? Good for her!! She could have a career going here! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

She is determined to do hair and not go to college - which is the downside. I promised her that if she gets a Business Management degree, I will get her a salon and she can both run it and do hair. I have always wanted a salon myself but have no hair skills at all. Last Christmas, I bought her one of those mannequin heads that you practice on in hair school and we permed it together and she braided on it all year until the poor thing was nearly bald. I just recently bought her another. She spends her entire allowance on synthetic hair that she braids into that poor mannequin's head. I haven't quite figured her technique but she adds the synthetic hair without that big ugly knot at the top of the braid.

she can start her little business now. those are some nice cornrows. and she is only ten /images/graemlins/blush.gif can you imagine what her skills will be like once she becomes a teenager. and Rene keep inforcing the education on her , tell her she cant run a proper business if she doesnt have the book skills . good luck to both your daughters /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Renee,

Your daughter did a wonderful job. /images/graemlins/grin.gif Girl, you are right, you need to find out how she does the braids without that knot at the top because that is something I had a hard time not doing when I did my braids. I also think it's great that she knows what she wants to do at a very young age.

I'm jealous! I'm trying to learn how to flat twist and cornrow and I just can't "get it". I was too cheap to buy the beauty school mannequin to practice on. I bought a giant Barbie head for $10. Boy, was I surprised when I got it home and she was bald in the middle! The hair was like fringe! LOL
Your daughter did a great job!

She has skills! I'll bet she becomes a wondrful hairdresser! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yes they are amazing and you must be proud to have such a talented and focused daughter.

If I lived near you, I'd pay your daughter to braid my hair.

She has done a little braiding for cash. She used to do it for free for all of her friends but her hairdresser told her no more freebies and she will have a BMW by the time she is 25 /images/graemlins/smile.gif It is such a shame she cannot do anything with her own hair but she keeps her sister in all the latest styles - Iversons, twists, etc...

The girl does have some major braiding skills. Make sure to push going to college in her head. Now speaking of heads. How much did the mannequin head cost. I think that I need the practice.

Girl, that is terrific!! I am so jelaous (lol!) I can't braid (cornrow) to save anyone's life! That is an awesome talent she has /images/graemlins/grin.gif

You should be proud. They ARE amazing. Well on the flip side at least your little one knows what she wants to do and it's constructive and she's got the skillz. She can have her chain of salons and be very successful by 25 if she keeps that up.

Her style puts me to shame. My cornrows look like big doo doo's on my cousin's head.

As far as I know she taught herself. Now that she is really into it, I bought her some of the Milady textbooks and other stuff (Shamboosie, Cathy Howse, etc...) but she has been braiding like this for about 2 years now. It's funny, she is not on reading level for some of the textbook material but she sure can move those little fingers. Her relaxer was good too - even though it took her over an hour and I told her that a real customer would have passed out from the pain, the mannequin's hair straightened out quite nicely.

dang, suddenly i feel so inadequate. lol! i so wish i could braid my own hair! she did an excellent job!!

I was gonna ask this a while back but are there actually any sites that can teach you how to cornrow step by step or with diagrams.

I can braid to a professional standard but I want to conquer the cornrow world now

Wow Renee,
I wish i lived closed to you id pay your little one to braid my hair, I can braid my hair but i cant get the parts straight, i guess with alittle practice, ill be able to get it. Tell your little one to keep up the good work.

which manequin did u order? I think I should try that first, then try my own. I have no sacrificial lambs here 2 practice on.... lol

If you live near Atlanta..there is a NAtural hair show(in june) that is open to the public...it would be good for her to see that she can make a successful business out of braiding...and she Should go to school or at least take some business classes and get a cosmetologist license or natural hair license...you got to keep it legal...
