So many ladies had great things to say about Sabino. So, I purchased it, but I think I'm using it wrong. Can anybody help? My hair puffed up so bad that I went home in shame.

I washed my hair.
Used about a quarter size of Sabino on my hair.
Dried it with a blowdryer
Then I pressed my hair and attempted to flat iron it.

My hair puffed up (not as bad as it usually does) in about an hour. I left my event and went home ashamed. :perplexed

What did I do wrong?

sorry this happened to you, but I want to know as well. I really want to order it for the summer but I'm apprehensive.

What setting did you use the flat iron on? Maybe it wasn't hot enough? (just throwing it out there........)

I used my Sedu on the highest setting. Maybe I need another flat iron.
Shouldn't the moisture blocked have worked with the blow dry? I imagined the flat ironing was icing on the cake, so to speak.

Sabino works best for me when used as follows:

I follow his instructions for 4a hair.

I shampoo, deep condition w/heat, and either leave a little conditioner on my hair when rinsing out or apply a leave-in as soon as I step out of the shower.

While my hair is still damp I apply anywhere from a dime to nickel sized drop to each section of hair (four in total). I scrunch it in just as he describes and then I brush it through with a boar bristle brush for even distribution.

I air-dry or sit under the dryer. Once my hair is dry I apply ~ a dime sized amount of SMB to each section (four in total) exactly as stated above.

Then I flat iron at ~400 degrees.

Once I'm done I go over my hair with Aveda serum or a little coconut oil.

My hair stays straight until the next time I wash it (seven days later). The only sections I have trouble with are my edges because sometimes they get wet in the shower or while washing my face. But even then, they just get a bit wavy, they don't revert completely.

I also flat iron thin sections - it takes me 45 minutes to an hour to finish my whole head (I'm 4a natural).

Thanks. I'll try parting my hair into sections and then apply it. I didn't use a brush either.

Time to try again.

I put a little Sabino in a small dish and as I flat iron my hair, I barely dab my finger into it and apply to each piece as I flat-iron. Works very well. A Light touch when using it this way is key, though. HTH.

Also take a look at the shampoo and conditioner you used. Most contain glycerin which will make your hair revert. Even though I'm washing it out, I dont take the chance of using a product with glycerin.

So what would be some good shampoos and conditoners to use?

I think that you may have not used enough of the product. I use it once I am out of the shower.... then again before flat ironing.

That's what I was gonna suggest. This is the same thing I do. I apply Sabino twice. Once while wet (about a dime size to each side of my wet head) then again to each piece before flat ironing to make sure every hair is covered. It works very well.

Yep, I put some in before I blow-dry, and then apply to each piece during flat-ironing:yep:

Thanks ladies. I didn't reapply before flat ironing. Maybe that's why it didn't work.

I use WEN Fig to shampoo. Gotta see if it has glycerin in it.

I don't buy anything special since I don't straighten that often. I just look at the ingredients list on what I have on hand. If it is moisturizing without the glycerin, I'll use it. I love Nexxus but it has glycerin so I never use it when I straighten.
