formaldehyde? The reason why I am asking is because I was looking at their shampoos at sickbay.biz and I was trying to make out the ingredients listing on the Avocado shampoo and noticed that it contains, what I believe to be, formaldehyde. Is that safe? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it's safe but I do know that it's not uncommon to find formaldehyde in cosmetics and facial products. However, hairboutique had this to say, "When possible avoid any products that contain alcohol or formaldehyde since they can be excessively drying to the hair" during the summer months. http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip003.htm

I use a shampoo with formaldehyde and I leave it on for minutes at a time and it has never dried my hair out.

formaldehyde (also called formalin) is not supposed to be in ANY beauty products and salons arent supposed to use it either. it's against the board of cosmetology. i remember my teacher saying it was some kind of poison.

Its the same stuff that they use to embalm people... its a preservative... you can also find it in carpets and things... I don't know that I would want that in my hair .... :ohwell:

THATS it.. wouldn't that be poison to a person that's still alive? :look:

Thanks ladies for responding. I was doing some research and I found out that a good portion of inexpensive/expensive shampoos contains a form of this. Also it is used as a cheap preservative. Even some nail polishes. I know that I can't have them on my nails because it tends to make my nails brittle and yellow. Now I have to search all my shampoos and conditioners since it may react the same way. Thanks again ladies.
