Am I overly concerned with splits?

So we all know split ends are the devil. I have very fine 3b-c low density hair. I don't use tools but once a week to detangle gently in the shower. Even then it was only after a through finger detangling. I was just looking at my hair after a fresh wash and noticed in about all 8 sections of hair I could spot 6-7 splits. Problem is, I stay trimming. I just came out of a 6 month protective style challenge (yarn braids) and trimmed a lot off before and then I trimmed after that. I tend to pick up the scissors every time I see splits and do a light dusting all over. I have fine thin hair so splits are just a fact of life. I deep condition every week protein once or twice a month and my hair is down maybe twice a month. I feel like at this point I am just going to wind up cutting all my hair off. I am scissor happy but I also hate seeing splits. I don't use scrunchies or anything like that and I try to keep my hair moisturized. I am tired of cutting. I don't have the patience or time for search and destroys and I feel like they are not thorough enough.

Am I putting to much on maintaining split free hair? Should I just except is as a fact and keep good hair practices? I feel like I never do anything to my hair out of fear of over manipulation and it's starting to bore me. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Don't worry about the splits. If splits are inevitable for your fine hair trimming is doing nothing but making your hair shorter.

The yarn braids may have caused the splits since your hair is fine and low density. You were in yarn braid for 6 months. Thats a lot of time for the yarn to zap moisture out of your hair and cause friction. I'd find another protective style like twists on your own hair or buns.

I would examine a bit how you're cutting the hair. Are you cutting on dry or wet hair? At an angle or blunt cuts? You may want to try cutting dry hair (so the scissor has a better grip) and make sure you're cutting bluntly, completely straight. If hair is slipping as you cut, or at an angle, the pointier side can produce a split a lot easier than if it were a straight cut.

Maybe it's time to change the scissors?
