Aloe Vera contains protein and using leave in moisturizers or leave in conditioners that contain protein drys some people's hair out...mine included. The protein is used to strengthen the hair but that is the side effect. You can deep condition with protein conditioners but wash it all out and use a moisturizer with NO PROTEIN. That is what has helped me with my dry hair...despite using surge which a lot of LHCF members complain about it making their hair and scalp dry and flaky.

Aloe Vera contains allantoin, protein, minerals, vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, E and K, and 18 amino acids and a substance called Barbaloin which promotes the healing of reddened irritated skin, all of which give this herb its unique soothing, cooling antibacterial, anti-fungal and tissue restorative properties.
Aloe vera provides protein for the hair. While it strengthens the hair, it also makes the hair dry or hard. You need to soften your hair with oil or a moisturizer of your choice. Brittle hair can lead to breakage, so always moisturize when using a protein-containing product. HTH
Yep! It does that to me too including using conditioners with aloe vera in it. Aloe vera makes my hair more stiff and dry than any hard core protein I’ve ever used. I can’t get the softness back for days even if I follow up with a moisturizing conditioner. This was one of the reason’s I think I didn’t like Silk Elements luxury moisturizing conditioner.
I love aloe vera gel & it helps to keep me hydrated, but I make sure I only buy one that is 99.5% aloe and contains no alcohol. My hair doesn't like heavy protein conditioners, but has no problem w/aloe as a leave-in. I use it diluted in distilled water, coconut milk, avocado and castor oil.
im so shocked. i thought aloe would help to condition and add moisture to hair. I was considering Aubrey Organics new Aloe Essense line, whould that be okay since it all natural and contains no alcohol?
I only use one product that contains Aloe and now that I think of it, it DOES act like a protein conditioner!
Gotta make better use of it then! I stopped using it as often because it calls itself a moisturizing conditioner, but didn't give me much slip or all that much "moisture" either - in the buttery silky feeling hair sense of the word. So it got moved to the occasional use pile. But I FORGOT that Aloe had protein!
