I have seen these mentioned a few times on the boards. Where are you ladies buying it? What exactly does it do for your hair. Can someone post a pic?

I got mine from drugstore.com. It's just like using a regular hair gel but without all of the bad ingredients. It has a whole lot of hold and there is no flaking. Also, my hair seems to feel super hydrated with it... almost wet.

I use it as gel but its good because it doesnt have alcohol. Its does the job without the drying :) I have a pic in my fotki under the productivity album let me see if I can post it....

Excuse the blurriness of this pic...I took this w/ my phone b/c I don't batteries or my cable for my digi cam...but this is the aloe vera gel I use. The brand is Lily of the Desert. It's certified organic, and I purchase it from the Whole Foods Market. It costs about $4 for 4 fl. oz.

I use it for everything. I put 2 or 3 dollops in my deep conditioner mix, and I mix in my hand w/ my leave-in conditioner as well. During the week, if I spritz my hair with my moisture mix, I may follow with this gel.

I also use it on my skin. It keeps blemishes away and refines the texture. I also use it on cuts and scrapes to heal them and prevent scarring.

It's good stuff. I buy it 2 or 3 tubes at a time.

Thanks for the responses ladies.

Divine, how does your hair feel when you put this in your deep conditioner or as a leave in. Isn't it a gel? How are you styling your hair?

I love the way my hair feels when I add it to my DC mix. It makes detangling a lot easier. I had been looking for a natural replacement for PM's The Detangler, and this gel is it!

It's actually a gelly as opposed to a gel. The consistency is gel-like, and if you apply it on your temples and allow it to dry, it will hold the strays in place, but it doesn't dry hard or flake.

The product is actually designed to provide relief from sunburn, bites, burns, etc. And the tube says it's a "soothing moisturizer for sensitive skin" so I guess that's why my hair feels moisturized after using it.

I don't know what other brands have in them, but this one is 99.5% certified organic aloe vera gel, carbomer 940, vitamins A, C, and E. There are no artificial colors or fragrances and there are no animal derivatives in it. So it performs much like glycerin would in a similar situation except it's not as gooey.

I hope that made sense.

WOW! I always thought that this stuff would make my hair dry hard. I wonder how my hair would turn out if I used a little before rollersetting or airdrying in a bun.

Good question. I bought some last summer that I used as a face moisturizer. Since there's some left, I'll use it tonight as a setting lotion for my roller set.

I got mine from the Korean food store. I also see it at the Health Food Store and they have a more variety of brands there. I use the Lily of the Desert brand (aloe vera gel) and it doesnt make my hair dry at all.

My parents always told me that you learn something new everyday. I have a huge bottle of 99% aloe vera gelly (Lilly of the Valley) that I purchased from a health food store... and it's just sitting under my sink not being used! I use it on my daughter's curly hair in the summertime. I didn't even think about using it on my hair. :ohwell: And I have been trying to find something to soften my edges without coating or drying them out. Talk about someone snoozing on something...

Thanks for this thread NewYorkgyrl.

And DI, again you are killing me with the Whole Foods (I'm jealous!!). :lachen:

No prob. Curious minds want to know. LOL Thanks ladies for all of the responses. I am going to buy some the minute I get a chance to go the whole foods market.

hahaha Hairphoenix i have the same one the gallon one and i found that its really good as a setting lotion. it makes the hair come out like it has been under the dryer when its dryed. i used it right after cowashing before doing my twists. and when i remove my twists the next day, the twists out are superb, elastic and like i used rods so pretttttttty crunchy like but it makes it keep the twist out shape hard to explain

i dont know how to explain its not really hard but yeah it dries in the shape of the twists but its still soft to the touch but it dries how to say it like i took the rods out and wait i m put a pix but i dont know how to explain it

http://public.fotki.com/ekomba/ekomba-2/ekay_and_friends.html

like in the pix you see it feels like i had rods in my hair and used a setting lotion under the dryer. the twists out are not hard but keep the shape . the hair is natural but it really feels like i dried under a hood because the hair is elastic and keep the shape of twists and when i dont use the aloe vera gel on wet hair before twisting the hair can unravel and dont come out that good in twistouts.

For me, it adds shine and provides light hold for my style.
