Someone here has to be as sensitive as I am! LOL!

I have known skin issues in that I can't use any product with added fragrance. However the only hair product I've had a problem with is S-curl moisturizer. Last Sunday I tried out my AOHR conditioner for the first time and woke up the next day with burning and itching all over but concentrated on my hairline and hands. I tried washing it out with my regular shampoo (Elasta QP creme shampoo) but every time I try, my scalp itches like crazy the next morning.

When I had my s-curl allergy I kept using my normal products, just eliminated that one and it was good enough. Do I need a special hypoallergenic routine to combat this allergy? Or is my old shampoo just dead in the water for me now?

I'm still waiting for the itching to go away. I tried Johnson and Johnson no more tears this evening, haven't conditioned or moisturized or sealed all week. My hair is dry as a bone and frizzy as hell but I am afraid to put anything on it.

What's the protocol around here for allergic reactions????

Sorry, this is happening to you, I've been there before as well <<cyber hug>>. Probably Urgent Care. If you keep using products, you could be worsening the problem because you skin is already irritated and sensitive. They may be able to give you something to stop the itching. And yes, you will probably need to investigate hypo-allergenic products.

I don't think washing will help, it could get yucky in your hair but an oatmeal bath is what helps me for my skin allergies.
Maybe you could try cowashing with Aveeno's conditioner that has oatmeal?

Eta not sure if Aveeno makes such a product so maybe try putting calamine lotion on your scalp and pop an anti histamine. Hth.

I have uber sensitive skin and products can be rough from time to time. Whatever product is causing you to itch, toss it. It's not worth the agony. I just switched to mostly natural products (I say mostly because I still have a few "regular" products in my arsenal)... and I still have to be careful because I'm allergic to some of them too. It's a beast finding something that my hair and scalp both love.... but it can be done. :yep:

There are a lot of good lines out there. You just have to experiment to see what works for you. I would take benadryl and not use whatever it was that you were allergic to. Take notes on the ingredients and see if you can narrow down the culprit. :yep: HTH

A Dr is not going to be able to determine what chemical in xyz shampoo or conditoner caused a reaction in you :nono: The Dr test for the most common foods, grasses, trees, wheat, dairy etc.

Give it away or toss it.

If your still having an reaction, I would see a Dr. or take otc allergy meds.

Thanks everyone. I kept getting an error msg trying to access this thread again.

I expect the dr would want to give me corticosteroids but I can't take those so I'm forced to tough it out at home. I washed the hair to get whatever it was off my scalp but I won't wash again until everything feels better. I'm afraid of irritating my scalp further as Althea mentioned. With the s-curl, all I did was eliminate it from my regimen. I kept using all my other products and the allergy cleared up quick. But I dunno, this one must have gotten into my bloodstream or something cause I've eliminated practically everything and I still itch. Last year I had an allergy to some insect repellent and it took a full week for my calves to stop itching.

I'll just spray the ends of the hair with water and then seal with jojoba oil. I haven't even conditioned. I still want hair when this is over so I gotta do something. I was a HAM last night before the jojoba.

Thanks for the oatmeal suggestion!

I dunno but I think it was the honeysuckle rose that did this in the first place so natural products give me trouble too. :nono:

Do you know what all you are allergic too? Since you suffer from sensitive skin of this magnitude it may be beneficial to seek help diagnosing all of your allergies so that you know what to stay away from in the future.

I wish you luck!
