Coil Tresses

I've been contemplating as soon as my hair is long enough to braid to get a sewn-in weave. I want it for 2 reasons: To grow out my hair safely, and child to have some hair on my head in the meantime.

I know the glue is a mess and is not an option. So, what are some good tips to wearing a weave effectively without the breakage? Also, are there some weaves that can be co-washed frequently? If so, what kind of hair?

Thanks a bunch!!

Everything you could need is in Ediese's thread. It's pretty cool on the do's and don'ts. Start there. I primarily stay braided up with my own hair, but have done weaves in the past, and everything she and the ladies recommend in this thread is definitely helpful to make sure that you protect your hair during the weave, and take down.

Right on, I appreciate all the help I can get.

I wish I could do it but I can't tolerate weaves/wigs in my head for more than a week. Reneice's weave regimen is very inspirational though, if you do it right weaves can help you grow your hair to long lengths.

I don't know what I wudda done without weaves! I started getting full head sew ins last january with leave out so I stopped perming everything except a lil patch in front, by marh april I stopped relaxing that too. I did my BC in october without even sweating cuz I got braids and weave the next day. With leave out the weave lasted by 6-8 weeks, with a bang closure it lasts me 11 weeks ( I just took it down today but it could of lasted another 2 weeks if I had patience. My retention is almost 100 percent I think cuz my hair is collar bone length.

I wash every 3 weeks and d/c, sit under the dryer (no rollers) to dry the braids and then flat iron and it comes out great! U cud wash more often if u do have a closure.

Tip: invest in at least mid quality hair if u want it to last and look good without tangles or shedding. I use bobbi boss and my stylist cuts the wefts and I still have no shedding.

Stay away from grease and oily products. For moisture use a dab of infusium 23. My hair doesn't dry out even when I use nothing cuz its shielded from the environment and my ownnatural oils do the work.

Don't add synthetic hair for the cornrows, I think they dry out the hair.

The first day ur hair should feel tight, not painful, u shud be able to sleep on it just fine and laugh without ur edges feeling pulled, and the tightness shud fade in a day.

Good luck and HHG!
