..I need your advice.

So far I took about 3 pills of EPO each day. But I didn't pay attention to the dosage really (meaning what each pill contained).
Today I went to Walmart because I needed new EPO. But then I saw flaxseed (which I took before also) and Fish Oil and Borage Oil (what is this exactly?).
Ok so I kept looking and then I found a bottle that said "Woman's Oil". Now this is what TWO capsules contain:

Vitamin E 30 I.U. 100%
Alpha-Linolenic Acid (Omega-3) 940mg
Gamma-Linolenic Acid (Omega-6) 120mg
Linoleic Acid (Omega-6) 560mg
Oleic Acid (Omega-9) 260mg
Lipsase (activity 4000 L.U.) 50mg
Rosemary Extract 4mg

please let me know what you think about this. Also, the bottles states that adults take 6 capsules each day. I think this is too much. I decided to take 4 and I'm not even sure about that...

the womans oil looks to me like it has the EPA's and the source of the EPA's comes from flax seed and black currant seed oil , i dont know much about black currant seed oil though

the other oils you mentioned...
borage seed oil is simlar to evening primrose oil , in that its more plentifull in the EPA 6 , than 3 , like the flax and fish oil

Nay, I'd suggest taking the liquid flaxseed oil. It's cheaper than the woma's oil and it has all the omega 3,6,9. I tajke the Spectrum brand which can be found at the Vitamin Shoppe. It's not tasty, but I usually swig it down with some juice painlessly. You'd have to take upwards of 11 regular capsules to get a tablespoon of the liquid. It's very well worth it to me. Here it is.

Hi, Nay!

Are you still loving some of the St. Ives conditioners?

I am and I remember you saying how much you enjoyed them. I hope life has been treating you well.

Okay, to your question. I think the reason the 2 caps 3x daily dosage is given because of the marketing purpose of that product. It's touted on that site for weight loss/fat flush. Some folks for that purpose taken even more than that.

As a general recommendation to you, with essential fatty acids, you should remember that you are taking them for your hair and adjust accordingly. In other words, with that product, you could either start slow taking one dose daily just to see how your system reacts or start with what I would probably do and to take the 2 softgels twice daily. I say that because I've been taking EFAs for years now and know how my system will react. I like the product because it's actually what I take...a flaxseed/black currant combo, plus it's got some Vitamin E tossed in and rosemary extract which deters any rancidity. I take singles of the flaxseed oil and black currant so that I can adjust to weather and other things, including my cycles, but most the time it's pretty much the same

Frankly, I don't care for fish oil and I eat plenty of fish. With any supplement containing fish body oil, you have to be concerned with "heavy metals". If you were interested, I would recommend Carlson to you because it's been regarded as the best on the market. Solgar is also a superior manufacturer for fish oil.

FYI, borage oil comes from the plant. A lot of people choose that as their EFA of choice. It treats hair EXTREMELY well. From what I've read, it's one you should rotate with another for safety purposes. I've taken it myself and then just switch back to my standard.

So, in essence, the choice is up to you.

Omega 9 is really forgotten for the hair and skin , but is so important. You can find it in products like olive oil, walnut oil which you can use in say a salad dressing. It feeds your hair tremendously and keeps elasticity top-notch. I am always glad to see that so many people enjoy using a bit of olive oil in salads and the like here. Your skin and hair will love you for that. Really your whole body.

With the EFA's, a little goes a LONG way. In the scheme of things, even that dose for weight loss which the site recommends is very tiny.

I hope something helped!

Cheeeeeers,

Jade

Thanks for the replies,

Armyqt,
I was thinking about taking the liquid flax seed oil before...I might try it soon.

Jade,
I always always use olive oil for my salads and cooking. And I want to make sure everybody I know uses it as well:) You seem the same way to me. People do not know how healthy it really is.
I'm not really interested in Fish Oil itself, but I would like to have an oil or a capsule that contains all the important omegas I need.
Yes, I still use St. Ives Fortifying Reconstructor. There are about 10 bottles on the way over to the States that I had to ship from Germany. I love that conditioner:)

Thanks again for all your answers.

I agree with Irresistable, NAY. I used EPA's a lot too and still do.

..........................

This is my first post on this board, and I have to make mention of my good results: I get good results with two nutrients: soy protein and a botanical blend named iNTRA; iNTRA is not awfully expensive. My hair grows a little more than an inch each month. I am so happy!!

O yes exercise is a must as well. Exercise your body. It really helps with blood circulation. Best regards, Ana.

Flax seed oil is a primary source of Omega 3, so is fish oil (but like Jade said you have to be concerned about mercury etc)

borage seed oil and evening primrose oil and im assume black currant seed oil are primare sources of Omega 6

although you might find some of the other Omega's in there with it, this is what you will find mostly in these oils.

the key is these have to be taken in a ratio to be effective...they are natural anti inflammitories , but when the ratio is off they can become pro inflammitory....the thing to keep in mind is that Omega 6 is more plentifull in our diets than Omega 3..and we need a ratio of more Omega 3 than 6...most that dont supplement the Omega 3 from a good source are off on the ratio and having various problems because of it.....

the capsules have to be taken in large amounts to equal one tablespoon of the oil...while when you take the oil in the bottle, its refridgerated and comes with a made and expiration date so there is less worry about it going rancid. also you need one tablespoon per 100lbs of body weight...

so i suggest taking the flax seed oil like Armyqt posted, thats what i take..only i take the one with the blue label (without the lignan) because it caused me problems...

I use the same thing. It's not the tastiest, but I prefer to take it, and then immediately drink a fruity juice. That way it's painless.
