Ladies- I'm curious to know how much money y'all spend on weekly hair products and supplies?

I think that I'm becoming a PJ:look: BUT you know what "I ain't mad."

I started going to a Salon at the age of seven b/c my mother didn't know how to take care of my hair. (So I grew up in the Salon). You would think that I would have gorgeous hair BY NOW since I'm 27....PLEEEAASSSE.

I stopped going to Salons in Jun '06 b/c I was determined to grow my hair healthy and long. And not long after, I found LHCF (Thank you Jesus), And you know what - I got my hair in the best shape in a 4 wk period than any other stylist ever did in my lifetime.

If someone mentioned or rave about a good product, I researched it to find out if would be good for my hair type. And by doing that the health of my hair is starting to look damn GOOD!!!!

So I rather invest in good products than give a stylist $35 a wk and still have the health of my hair tore up.

The interesting thing is that my stylists made comments about the poor condition of my (its too dry, thinning hairline, etc) but never gave me solutions or recommended good products for me to try. So Kudoos to LHCF... Y'all the Best. I found all my hair solutions here...in a 4 wk period....PROUD NEWBIE PJ.

fellow PJ here - at least til i find exactly what works for every style i want to do :D

what you said is soooo true. women spend a ton of $$ going to salons every week or 2, so why not take that money and enjoy trying new products that really work for your hair. besides, no one can possibly care for YOUR hair like YOU can, right?!

i don't see a problem with it at all - it's not like we're online gambling or anything

i really think once we perfect our styles (how they look and feel), we'll know what product to use for that particular style and stick with those products. maybe just tweaking a product here or there.

Yes, that's the beauty of doing your own hair...you can tweak here and there. Some salons only use one or two brands and which may not work for me. For the longest my old stylist only used Affirm (no-lye), to the point I was brain washed thinking this is the best relaxer since slice bread. Come to find out (after I stop going to the salon) this was the cause of my hair drying out....so I switched to a lye relaxer.

I can't say that I am a PROUD PJ, but I am proud to be taking my hair care very seriously, now. I'm proud to be breaking some bad, damaging habits. Proud to be "treating my hair like imported lace" and all. :)

I have spent $$$$$$$$$$$ since around August: investing in better, salon-quality shampoos, conditioners, and treatments that are tailored to my hair's needs. I also bought the T3 Featherweight Blow Dryer, the Ion Hard Dryer and, more recently, the T3 Tourmaline Curling Iron for the times I do use heat, because that technology is supposed to be less damaging. (I need to slow down because the guilt is rearing it's ugly head. Everytime I come into the house with a bag from Sephora or Sally's, I am hoping to stealthily enter "under the radar". )

But, I know I am worth it! And it is cheaper than going to the salon. I have only occassionally gone to the salon for "trims" or special styles because I have always been protective over my hair. I also justify it because I stopped going to the nail salon every two weeks (for 10 years) over a year ago. And I try to take lunch from home instead of spending up to $50 a week eating out.

I know the investment of money and time, will pay off greatly as I reach my goals of healthier, stronger, longer hair. And I am starting to pin down my routine, so I won't be jumping on every new thing that comes along.

I am a very proud PJ (see the tag under my name) and don't feel the least bit bad about it. I used to go the salon once every 2 weeks at $45-55 a pop like clockwork, which is about $90-110 a month. It got to the point where I was so tired of my hair constantly breaking that I started taking my own stuff to the salon. Then I though, why not keep my stuff, my self, and my money at home and do it myself. Now, I spend maybe $35-50 a month and my hair is in much better condition.

I love going to Sally's, Target, or the bss, getting what I need and getting out rather than waiting all day in the salon and probably being unhappy when I leave. I have my staple products, but I like variety and trying new things, so that's why I buy so much stuff.

That had the crackin up:lachen: But you all are right. No one can get my hair styled the way I want it no matter how much they have charged. To be honest I spend about 20 bucks a week if you average it out on hair related stuff. It is really my only "personal" expense. I forgo clothes and shoes to really get my hands on my beloved hair stuff. I guess there could be worse habits out there to have.

I agree with the bolded.

OOOHHHH I am not ashamed to admit I'm a PJ.:) I've spent loads of money on products..but I don't mind because I'm no longer going to the salon every two weeks....thank you Jesus...I used to give him (styler) $140 a month to be abused and sit there for an average five hours...I must have been mad... I did luv how my hair came out, but still.....I'm much happier having my hair goals and being able to do my daughters hair. I've been ordering online a lot ..speaking of which....I've got to go open up another window and go to www.michelinedeparis.com I've been meaning to order some products from there:lol:

(crl sticks her head in the thread and raises her hand!)
I am a former hairstylist and I knew some things about hair before the board, but the information I have gained here has been PRICELESS! I know know how to use all the products I have and if they don't work for me, there are lots of ladies here who would love to have them. So I don't really feel bad if something doesn't work for me.

At the same time, I have found ladies that their hair and my hair like the same types of products, so usually, if I see ****** post a rave review of a product and our hair likes the same types of things, I may try it. Otherwise, I leave it alone.

PJ POWERS ACTIVATE!
We should have a club! :)

Yah, I'm a PJ junkie BUT I have calmed down since I have gotten my regimen ON POINT. It's just that I can never get enough of moisturizers, daily conditioners, and Oils. I'm always on the lookout for MORE of those products. Right now I'm talking myself out of buying that GoldnHot stand dryer..I mean I have a heating cap...geesh...that $129.00 can go on more hair products...I mean there's alot of moisturizers I wanna buy:grin:

*I'll get that sucka in the beginning of the New Year*

I am definitely a proud product junkie!:) After all, I wouldn't know what works on my hair if I hadn't tried a bajillion different things. Maybe it doesn't make any sense, but I kind of had to 'waste' the money to figure out how I could ultimately 'save' it, and my hair. Lately (the last 6 months or so) I have been taking it easy because I have found staples but the inner PJ in me still lives on!

PJ's Rescue Respond To Rescue Mission

My hair is as dry as a bone. What is the best leave in for dry hair???

I've tried a bunch of stuff. Last night I tried to air dry...The worse! My hair is dull and sad looking. I don't know if I can blame trying to DC with Elasta QA DR-11 or this HQ henna, but my head is sad.

HELP!

Atlanta JJ -
My hair use to be real dull as well. What type of relaxer are you using, lye or no lye? The no-lye relaxer (Affirm) was the cause of my hair looking dull. I switched to a lye relaxer - Motions oil moisturizer relaxer and I immediatley saw a big difference.
Also, Motions moisture plus conditioner worked really well on me.
As far as a leave in - I use Lacio Lacio and roller set. Great Shine and bounce.
If you don't roller set, some ladies rave about Salerm as a good leave in.
Paul Mitchel Serum is excellent (I'm at work and I don't have the name but I will PM you).
Aveda Brilliance for coarse hair (serum) is also good for shine.

AtlantaJJ-

If your hair needs to be moisturized, there are alot of raves about Nacidit Olive Oil conditioner. It's a Dominican conditioner that gives lots of moisture and shine.

I recently ordered some Dominican conditioners, I should receive it today.

PJ here. What I spend varies with how much extra cash I have. With Viviscal calling my name, it could get pricey! Last week I spent $50. Next week? :look:

I'm going for a looooooooooong stretch and then it will be Lye Relaxer for me from now on. I'm going to try Silk Elements Regular.

Thanks for the product tips, I haven't heard of most of them! New stuff
