ALL Summer Without A Relaxer

Hey ladies this is how it started out. I went away this summer and before I left I gave myself a relaxer. I thought that 6 weeks was just the right amount of time that I needed in between relaxers. I am home now and I still did not give myself a relaxer. I came to the conclusion that I will not get a relaxer this summer at all. I will wait until fall and then see how much my hair has grown.(my lst relaxer was mid-june) I also thought that it would be a good idea to give my hair some rest from chemical treatments so im just ponytail-in-it-up, perfecting the cornrows or wearing a twist out. Now I am even more excited for the school year to begin. Just thought I'd share.

my last relaxer was 05/30/03 and I am planning to get mine done at the end of the month

This is exazctly what I do... my last relaxer was in April 2003 and my next one is due this weekend or the next for school... I only get mine done maybe 3-4 times a year.

my new growth isnt as bad as i thought it would be. i do cornrows alot and i mousturize my new growth when i have them in. it is then much softer when i take them out. i also do not wash as much. i know some ppl on the board swear by constant washing but i guess my hair gets dried out really easily and the more i wash it the more it becomes a tangled mess. i am also using more natural oils and not that much "grease". i only use that for emergencies. congrats to the other girls for extending the time between relaxers. at first i thought that it would be hard but i had to learn out of necesity when i went to mexico this summer and there wasnt any black hair care products in sight. then my blowdryer broke so lets just say i was lovin those braids for about 3-4 weeks.

When I had a perm, my hair would break if I extended the perm out too long. How are you able to maintain your length without breakage (specifically at the newgrowth and permed hair line). Thanks in advance.

i dont know, im just able to go a long time without a relaxer. i guess it the type of hair that i have. i have heard that some ppl need to get a relaxer every so often b/c if they do not they get severe breakage. i just keep it moisturized and wear cornrows or twists the majority of the time. this way i am not combing ot brushing my hair.

I'm growing back my single-braid-damaged hairline/edges and they are 5mths post relaxer while other parts of my hair had their last touchup on the 22nd of May. It was initially difficult managing the 2 textures but reducing washing to once a week and using castor oil and ors carrot oil on my ends and new growth anytime I feel dryness has helped. After rinsing out my deepconditioner, I add leave-in and s-curl followed by carrot oil comb (into a ponytail)and braid the hair. For daily maintenance, I simply brush the front to get it smooth and keep the growing edges from showing. I am not going to do a touchup until I get as much hair as I want on my edges and I don't care if I lose my length in the process. This is one time when I believe that the end justifies the means.

i decided to do the same thing diamond. needed a relaxer back in may but i got caught up in this braid craze (braidouts) so i swore off relaxing until the summer is over. my last relaxer was in january; my new growth is unbelievably thick. they say you can grow 6in. in one year, i think i've got about 4ins. i must admit though that i'm a little apprehensive about relaxing again in sept. because in my crazed mind i'm thinking what if it falls off? lol i'll cross my fingers for both of us.

This is what happened when I went to the hairdressers the first time after my long time relaxer withdraw. And the thing that made me mad was that I did not see any split ends.

This is exactly what I've been doing!! The last relaxer I've had was on May 15th on Monday that will make it 4 months!!!!!!

The longest I used to go was 8 weeks!! I can't wait till I get a touch-up either!!

I'll be 27 weeks (edges and front) and 17 weeks all round on wednesday. I'm learning so much about my hair.

Maybe it is the perm, or maybe the 1 and a half inch growth that I have
