Can anyone remind me of the BAD types of alcohol and the ones that are just like thickening agents or harmless? I'm looking for non high level of alcohol conditioners for my condition washes. If anyone wants to just jot down what low or no alcohol level conditioner they use, that'd be great too!

Off the top of my head:

Isopropyl and SD Alcohol 40 are the "bad" ones.
Cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol and lanolin alcohol are ok.

*bump* can anyone list more of the bad alcohols in hair products?

Cetyl alcohol (natural and iso-)
Oleyl alcohol
Cetyl-stearyl alcohol
Octyl alcohol
Decyl alcohol
Ricinol alcohol
Lauryl alcohol
Strearyl alcohol
Lauro-myristyl alcohol
Tallow alcohol

fatty alcohols

The above website has alternate names for various ingredients, like mineral oils.

not sure. maybe someone whose knowledgeable in bad alcohols can answer that.
