hair bored
I added 3 new pics with my camera phone. Sorry I don't have more yet. But this will give you an idea of how much new growth I have, and I even took a shot of my "jheri curl!" LOL! I also have a pic of the breakage I mentioned in the center of my head that I believe is being caused by my bun. Anyways, I'm trying to stay motivated, and thanks again to everyone for all of the encouragement! /images/graemlins/kiss.gif

Very pretty Ayana! /images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm lovin the curls /images/graemlins/weird.gif

Wow! Your camera phone resolution is great!

If my curl pattern was that loose, I would probably not bother relaxing my hair.

You don't like the curls because they look like jheri curls to you? Would you rather rollerset it straight consistently? What options are you considering?

Your hair is pretty...why are you frustrated...

I'm frustrated b/c I'm tired of the 2 textures, tired of the bun, and my hair is starting to break. I haven't cut off the relaxed ends b/c iut would be too short to make a bun and my bun is my safety net b/c it looks more professional than a head full of curls at trial. I'm starting to see silky relaxed heads and kind of get down about my transition. I guess it's just that when you transition slowly instead of doing the big chop, it takes a lot longer to see the results that you want. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

Did you ever go to curves???

[/ QUOTE ]

I didn't get to go to Curve b/c I had to cancel my trip b/c of Hurricane Ivan. If I continue to transition, I still want to go there some after I cut off the relaxed ends.

I love the curls. Hang in there. Your almost to your goal for your chop. Just 3 more months!

Wow...I'm not a fan of the BC, but I think you have enough healthy lovely natural hair that it might actually be a good thing. I hated to see hairlove's ends go, but the final result was awfully pretty /images/graemlins/smile.gif...I think yours might be the same way /images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Either way, I don't think you should be frustrated, though--it looks like you're having a smooth transition /images/graemlins/up.gif.

My hair looks like a jheri curl to me, especially in the first pic. My mom says that my hair will coil once those relaxed ends are gone, but I keep thinking that it's going to look like a curl...I think I might be paranoid...maybe it's b/c I grew up in Cali and I hate curls! /images/graemlins/barf.gif I can't roller set it straight in Miami due to the humidity, but I really want to wear my hair loose and curly once I'm more comfortable with the length. I've only had my hair short once in my life, and I hated it b/c I have a big head, so I'm very conscious about length, especially now that shrinkage is a factor. And I LOVE curly pony's like Kha's and Isis's, but I keep thinking my hair will never do that! I actually think I may have hair anorexia, where you always see your own hair differently than others see it.

Wow, hairlove cut off her ends??? /images/graemlins/shocked.gif Where have I been? I'm heading over there right now to see her album...

Your curls are gorgeous. Your curls look like Hairlove's and Kha's to me. Your hair absolutely will not look like a jheri curl at all. You're going to be a beautiful natural. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
Hairlove cut off her relaxed ends at the end of August, I think.

I definately think you and hairlove are hair twoms. If I were you I would get a big trim, roller set, braid out or whatever to continue transitioning. You have beautiful hair

Ayana I assure you that your hair wont look like a jheri curl... IMy new growth was wavy like yours except tighter. Now i have spirals and everything else. The only way your natural hair will look jheri curlish is right after you co wash it...because its wet with product. After it airdries it looks soooo cute. Trust me. You hair looks wonderful!

Ayana, you had me all ready to say, yeah girl, go get that relaxer. But now you get a big /images/graemlins/nono.gif from me. Your natural texture is sooo beautiful. I think your curls are going to be stunning. I'd hate to see you lose all of the time and dedication you've invested. And I totally understand about the bun breakage, I've done that to my hair twice. And I also understand having limited options while transitioning, but can we find some middle ground? What about lightly texturizing? You could have the humidity proof hair you are seeking and keep a curl pattern @ the same time. Then you continue trimming w/o the BC.

Your mother is somewhat correct about the curl being somewhat different once the relaxed ends are gone, but the pattern is rather loose, it's not going to coil, it may curl more (spring more), but won't coil tightly /images/graemlins/nono.gif. I don't see that happening at all. But whatever you decide, know that your natural hair is absolutely beautiful. /images/graemlins/weird.gif

As sengschick started in her response, go ahead and get the relaxer.

Thanks for the support ladies! /images/graemlins/up.gif Sengs, what you're saying about my curl pattern not coiling is exactly what concerns me. I'm getting frustrated b/c I don't think it's going to be the corkscrew ringlets I want. It's very "S" looking, but not very "O" looking, which is what I think you need for ringlets. I've thought a lot about texturizing, so that I can come to some happy medium and have the best of both worlds, but I'm afraid that even a texturizer won't work b/c my hair relaxes VERY easily, and I think it would make the curl pattern look limp and nonexistent. /images/graemlins/nono.gif Anyways, I think I'm gonna hang in here for a little while longer, and try some braidouts and roller sets to see if that helps with the breakage.

I thought that about your hair too, b/c your ends are so straight & the curl pattern is so loose. I think it could easily end up being limp and not like the hair you like most (based on your inspiration album) /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif . And if there's one thing I've learned w/this texturized hair... it's expect nothing, work w/whatever you get!

Well at least you aren't going to make any sudden moves. Your hair is growing quickly, so hopefully your struggle w/two textures won't last much longer and you can decide what to do then. Hold on tight & be patient, we're here to support you. /images/graemlins/kiss.gif

With your curl pattern being so loose, if you texturize you might not have the look you're after, especially if your hair relaxes easily. Mine relaxes easily as well and my texturized hair can't be messed w/ a lot of the curls fall right out. So I can't comb my hair & put it in a curly ponytail, for example. One of the reasons that I'm transitioning is because I'm limited w/ styling my texturized hair because the curls won't stay. It's also very easy to end up overprocessing if it doesn't take much to get your hair straight.
Once your relaxed ends are gone, you'll have a better idea of what your curls will end up looking like.

Ayana - In my experience with my own hair, I did not find out that some of it curls into a ringlet until the relaxed ends were gone. I had a few sections before I got rid of them but I was still wondering what the case would really be. The fact is that I have some sections that are complete ringlets, some sections that wave and then curl on the ends. Some are tighter and some are looser.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with your hair. Another thing to think about is most people I saw with gheri curls had really stringy hair where there was just a few strands that were long. Wet natural hair (to me) does not look like a gheri curl b/c it is thick and full and luscious!

I will hopefully have my pictures back up sometime today. I can't believe you didn't know. I've had my siggy changed for over a month. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yah, I agree with everyone else..I love your hair!! I hope you don't relax again because..on the selfish side..lol.. I can't wait to see the results when you get the relaxed ends cut off.. but you do have to do what's best for you. I don't think you should relax though.. JMO!
