I'm curious, since you've actually been here since the beginning or nearly so, have you done any of the challenges and/or done any of the hot-for-the mo products or methods? LOL

Bunning is something that may be perfect for you being in the AF as a protective style...just thought I'd suggest it.

When my hair was longer I bunned all the time, and then when I was going through basic training and tech school i was washing my hair all the time in addition to bunning and I think i was grazing APL, but i wasn't taking care of my ends so I had to cut back to shoulder length. Here's the longest my hair got:

You had a good length. Some folks can't do bunning, but you might be able to. What styles are popular w/ AF women?

Your ends just need more hiding methinks. Check out the Wanakee sticky and it'll give you ideas. It's easy-peasy to hide them and still look good.

I always took care of my ends when i wore buns before basic but during, I couldn't tell me TI i was running late because I had to moisturize and seal lol so my hair was dry and rough when I left San Antonio. When I got to my tech school in Biloxi, MS I was lurking LHCF via my cell phone and I discovered oil rinsing so I was doing that on top of washing every day and my hair did a lot better but i never trimmed the damage that basic did to my ends so I got a major trim and from that point on my hair stayed at SL and the whole time I had regretted relaxing my natural hair but I didnt want to lose all my progress, but eventually being natural and having healthy hair (i was relaxing bone straight and using permanent dye) took precedence over length so I hacked it all off 2 months ago after transitioning for 5 months. Now I'm using a sulfur mix for growth and it's working great for me. I should be NL in the next 2-3 months.

I've seen women wearing buns, kinky twists, micros, cornrows, and I recently saw a long haired natural wearing 2 strand twists.

Sulphur? Do you mix it in to a product or buy a premade one? Yes, sulphur is good stuff...it works, but stinks. What do you do about the smell? LOL

Even tho you're now natural, I'd suggest staying away from micros UNLESS you have a braider that doesn't go to tight. Since you're gonna go where you don't have much access to peolpe to do your hair, now's a perfect time to learn your own natural hair. ;)

Do you still oil rinse now that you're natural?

I mix my own sulfur oil, the smell doesnt even bother me anymore. I have never worn micros ever in life, i've seen what they do to people's edges but those are the styles I've seen since I've been in the AF. My hair has been natural about 98% of my life. The first time I relaxed I kept it for a year and a half, stayed natural 2 years and then I relaxed again from May '08 to March '09. I started oil rinsing back up once the weather got a little colder here and I love it. I oil rinse on my work nights and I baggy on off nights.

Wow....you're a natural like me, lifelong!!! Nice, we're rare even here! Ok, so you had your relaxer fun now, but now it's time to get back to work!:lachen:You already know what to do, so I'll give no more advice unless you ask!

I have a question for you...how does one oil rinse?

Please tell me where to get sulphur oil? I use pre made sulphur stuff, but I love making my own products.

If you still comb your hair, do you have a "bone" or "resin" one? They're great and a dream for detangling dry or wet.

Geez Miss AJ (I'm an AJ too, BTW) you should have been posting here before....you're already 99% ahead of the game.

For oil rinsing I followed the steps in sareca's "Don't Sleep On Oil Rinses" thread:

Rinse (or shampoo) your hair
Coat in your favorite oil (I've used olive, jojoba, castor, meadowfoam, dabur alma, and aphogee EFA oil, red palm oil/butter--- my favorite is an amla, castor mix)
Rinse with warm/hot water
Apply conditioner
Rinse with cool/cold water
Apply leave-in
Seal

The only thing I don't do is the final rinse with cold water, i hate cold water on my scalp. I use coconut oil for mine and my hair is responding very well to the oil rinsing step. As far as the sulfur, i bought the sublimed flowers of sulfur off of Amazon and I just mixed it with my Hot Six Oil. 8 oz. has lasted me 2 months. When my hair was longer I always wanted to get bone combs but I never did, that might be my reward for when I make NL.

Look on ebay for the combs. I treated myself to a handmade one about $15, but they have them for less.

Ahh..ok, I know the oil rinse. Amla and castor is a nice combo since you get the active benefits of both.

Thanks for the sulphur oil hook up. ;)

Ok, some unasked for advice  (I know, I broke my promise) ever thought about henna/indigo for strength? It is nice stuff and I think it helps w/ shedding and breakage. It certainly does for me. It might help buck up your ends so you can face your CO. LOL

I do the cold rinse, sometimes w/ nettle. It keeps it "blacknshiney"!
