I'm going to a scalp specialist/cosmetologist and she deduced that my hair is only tex-laxed. When wet, my hair does not remain straight, it reverts to a shrunken state and is typically pre-dried and blown out then ceramixed (I know it's not really a word) but it's only been 4 weeks since my last "touch-up" and she says my hair needs a relaxer. Okay, I'll admit my edges are out of control but I don't have enough new growth (for me) to warrant a "real relaxer". Plus, she says my hair is protein rich meaning that relaxers have a hard time breaking down my hair. I've never heard of such thing but I'm not a scientist either. Anyone have any advice? should I get a salon relaxer or hold off a little longer?

I would hold off if it's only been 4 weeks.

I assume that you don't want texlaxed??

It is possible to have a corrective relaxer done (you have to be careful though not to overprocess). I would still wait either way though. If I were you I would wait until at least 10 weeks post, but that's me, you have to do what you feel is right for your hair's health.

scalp specialist as in trichologist?

If you want your hair to be straight, you are going to have to correct the texlaxed portions by doing a corrective relaxer. During a corrective relaxer, you apply to the new growth first and then apply relaxer to the previously relaxed but unstraight portions of hair. Don't forget to smooth and don't over process.

It is better if a pro does it b/c they can see which part are not straight

If she starts mentioning getting a relaxer from her every 4 weeks, RUN!!!

yes, she's a trichologist/cosmetologist. Okay, I understand so my entire head will need reprocessed.....how scary. She seems to know what she's doing........I'm just scared. I've come a long way in a short period of time and I don't need anyone trying to destroy it.

Just keep an eye on her. She is cosmetologist also and many of them have their eye on your wallet instead of the condition of your hair.
