I decided to go back to basics with a lot of things I do pertaining to my hair regimines. Which includes going back to my hairdresser in Brooklyn. I am/was about 10wks post relaxer and usually I bring my own because she doesn't carry Motions. When I went to see her last week she informed me she now has Motions

I called her yesterday to say I may be coming in for a touch up and asked if she had Mild (I have a headful of color so I need to be extra careful!)...she said no but I will put conditioner in it... WTF...

I said, yeah ok. (muttering to myself, has this girl lost all of her faculties!!!)

Now note, while applying the relaxer she does use some "conditioner" in an applicator bottle to assure that the relaxer is not too far to the scalp or processing too fast in certain areas...but mixing it in the relaxer to lessen the strength...IONO about that one. I have "spiked" it with some EVOO and that seemed to be ok but conditioner???

Of course I took no chances and stopped off to my BSS to get the Motions/Mild. I go to her and say I have brought my mild and I don't want super straight hair...leave the "wave pattern" (to make it also appear slightly thicker since it has thinned so much do to the color process)... Now she comes with her bowl and the CONDITIONER and almost does half and half

She is applying it like she usually does (new growth only) and now I am getting paranoid because its looking "straight" and I am squirming but I trust her impecably but this was something totally unheard of to me. Well to make a long story short...she rinses me out/ conditioners and all that other jazz and roller sets me. Dryer/ unravel the rollers/ wrap (no blowing of roots is necessary with her) and go home.

On the way home I noticed my edges and nape weren't super straight and I was

In New York this morning is FOG CITY so I kept my wrap in until I arrived to work. VOILA!!!! I take the pins out and comb down and its super soft and fluffy and not pin straight and limp.

This is something I will definitely have to keep in my for the future! and with all this color it doesn't seem "dried out" I will most certaintly give an update later next week after the first wash

PA2-----I am glad this mix worked for you.......I used to add a small amount of AO conditioner to my relaxer all the time. It made my hair really soft......

SherryLove, what is AO? Forgive the dumb question, but new here and still learning. By the way, thanks for the welcome on my introductory post!

Re: Additions in Relaxer?? /I thought she was crazy!

She does mean Aubrey Organics. There is a thread, by Allandra, that list common abbreviations. I found it helpful when I joined.

hello #6 train companion! I can't wait to see you next week in the AM. I am glad to hear that it all worked out for you. I am sure it is beautiful.

Re: Additions in Relaxer?? /I thought she was crazy!

Well Sherry if you tried that type of combination then I know it has to be ok! Thanks for those words of confirmation. Granted the weather is blah today but my hair doesn't feel dry or limp and that was a big concern for me due to the thiness. I was SERIOUSLY thinking of cutting it into a little bob and starting from scratch but not anymore

(well at least not today)...If I wasn't at work I'd try and take a pic with my camera phone and send it

And if anyone was wondering the conditioner she used was Gusano de Seda (silk worm) (tannish jar with lite pink writing).

I do this all the time - mix conditioner into my relaxer. It works better for me that oil.

Ouidad suggests this as well - that's where I got it I think - from her and Aniaklia (?)....

thats interesting! do u get better results with the conditioner mixed in?

Re: Additions in Relaxer?? /I thought she was crazy!

Nikki - I use about 2 or 3 tablespoons - sometimes a bit more.

Re: Additions in Relaxer?? /I thought she was crazy!

If you think about it brands like Affirm and Fiberguard add conditioner to it already. I had a hairdresser add like 5 tablespoons to a bowl of relaxer.

Re: Additions in Relaxer?? /I thought she was crazy!

I mix equal amounts when I have done this in the past. I am glad to see that I am not the only one!

Re: Additions in Relaxer?? /I thought she was crazy!

I'm getting a relaxer this Thursday and I would like to try mixing conditionner to my relaxer. I use Motion relaxer, do you think Motions Moisture Plus Conditioner is a good conditionner to add? any suggestions?

Re: Additions in Relaxer?? /I thought she was crazy!

This stylist that I used to go to when I was in college would spray my hair with some type of conditioner mixture before she relaxed my hair so that it would not overprocess if the relaxer got on some of the already relaxed hair. Ah, those were the days. That girl is a good stylist. Shout out to Tasha if you're up here!

Re: Additions in Relaxer?? /I thought she was crazy!

Glad you had great results - I use to apply conditioner to my hair then apply the relaxer over it when I used to texturize.
