I've heard this mentioned before, but am not sure what it does excatly. Is this something that I can buy in the grocery store? How is it used? Someone please let me know.

Hi Kitty,

I buy my apple cider vinegar (ACV) from the store. I like to use it after shampooing but before I condition my hair, although sometimes I use it as a final rinse. It's great for removing the shampoo remnants from my hair and my conditioner seems to work better. My scalp also loves it!

I can't believe how pretty and shiny my hair looks afterwards, including my new growth. I have read posts by other folks who've experienced the same thing using distilled (white/clear) vinegar. I guess it's the acidic property that counts. Everyone has a different ratio of dilution - I use very little ACV with a whole lot of distilled water.

HTH

I did it this week! I LOVED the way my hair felt...its going to be a regular in my regime...I did it as a final rinse....my hair was soooo smooth!

I couldn't believe that stuff actually gives my hair SLIP... wow... I use it as a final rinse after I condition.

Ladies
DO you use it straight from the bottle or do you mix it with
water.Please answer.

Labett ~ I seriously dilute mine! Everyone's ratio is different, though. Some do a 1:4 formula (1 oz. ACV to 4 oz. of water). I use a higher ratio and I use distilled water. HTH!

Edited to add: I encourage you and anyone else who wants to try it to play around with the percentages to find what best suits your individual hair.

Like Nyambura, I dilute mine more. I used about 1.5 tablespoons in say, 5 or 6 cups of distilled water. It made my hair very shiny. I didn't really get "slip" though...

Do a search for "acv" and you'll get a lot of info on the dilutions that people use.

BTW, does anyone find that it is "too much" to use them back-to-back for each wash? I didn't feel the same love for my hair after the second time I did it. It almost felt like my hair was too clarified -- stripped perhaps. I did them as a final rinse. Maybe if I use it before the shampoo it's OK to do with every wash?? For now, I'm planning on once a month or so as a clarifier.

Any opinions??

I also do an acv rinse after shampooing and then I condition my hair. I use 4 ounces of acv and 28 ounces of water. This works well for my hair and scalp.

Maybe your ACV to water ratio is too high, and you need to use less ACV. Less is always better than more, coz too much acidity can be damaging.

I use an ACV rinse as a final rinse for every wash and have never had a problem with it. But my solution is usually very dilute: about a 1/4 cup ACV to a gallon or two of water. I don't know if it makes a difference if you rinse your conditioner off with cool water so you don't strip your hair of all the goodies you just put into it. Then when you follow that with an ACV rinse, it helps close the cuticle and lock in the nourishment from your conditioner further. That's what I do. I just make sure that during my ACV rinse, I massage my scalp well to remove any conditioner residue that the cool water may have left behind. I love a squeaky clean scalp.

I'll have to try this one of these days. It's sounds like a healthy thing to do for our hair.

The first time I did it I didn't feel a difference but this time ( which is about a month and a half since the last time, and I'm 8 weeks post) it really made a huge difference, my hair felt smoother than I've every felt....I always deep condition under adryer but this time I sat with List and Humecto for 15-20 minutes then rinse very well...I had slip but then I did the ACV and it seemed to seal my hair....
really nice...

I used 1/4cup of ACV and the 1 cup water (2oz of ACV to 8oz of water)

Can you do this right after a relaxer? I know the neutralizing shampoo returns it to a good pH....but will pouring something acidic on the hair after that be too much???

Ladies, some say the ACV before conditioner, some say after to seal in the affects of the conditioner. Can anyone advise on what is best? Also, is this something safe to do everytime you wash or bi-weekly, every month? Need advice. Please send PMs. Thanks bunches!!!! You guy are great and TIA for all that respond. :-)

TBird, some pple (eg Nonie

) use it at the very end of their wash, while others (eg Allandra) use it just before conditioning...yet both sets of pple like the results they get. So it's really up to you what works best -- a decision you may only be able to make after trying both ways out.

I think it all depends on which aspect of ACV you focus on/believe in...or just plain like. If clarifying is what tickles your fancy about ACV, you may prefer to use it before conditioning so that you remove all shampoo residue and leave hair in an unadulterated "pure" state to receive the benefits of the conditioner. (Using after conditioning may be thought to strip the hair of the effects of the conditioner because of the "clarifying" factor.)

If closure of the cuticle is what moves you, then using it last may be the way to go so that you seal in the moisture and goodness that penetrated your hair during conditioning. (Using it before conditioner may be thought to defeat the purpose of conditioning, since you want the benefits of the conditioner to penetrate the hair and so it seems more efficient to leave the cuticle open until after conditioning.)

So really it's six of one and half a dozen of the other.

I know that I did the ACV Rinse at the end of my condition and it made my hair like hard to detangle and it wasn't cute at all. So im trying to put i in between the shampoo and condition.

the portions i used were 2 tsp to 1.89l of water
