For those of you that extend your relaxers using some type of activator product (S-curl, Sta Sof Fro, etc), what do you do when it is time to relax?

I am trying to figure out what to do. My roots are much softer so I am thinking it may be harder for me to distinguish all the new growth.

TIA

I use Scurl and I am getting a relaxer today. I haven't washed my hair in about a week because I knew that I was getting the relaxer today. The Scurl does make my new growth very soft and pliable. However, I am having my relaxer professionally done, so it distinguishing the new growth wont be a problem for me. I just took care not to apply any last night or today so that my scalp won't be "wet" and thus heed off any potential scalp burns.

I've NEVER had a problem. I use SCurl. It makes my new growth more combable but not straight. Therefore, it's always quite obvious where my new growth ends and relaxed hair begins. My hair type is 4A....another reason why it's easy to tell the difference between the two textures.

Thanks for responding ladies. I too am 4a/4b and am trying to determine the best way to relax. I guess because it feels so different I am thinking it is going to be harder to distinguish the two textures.

The same here. I don't wash my hair for a full week before I get my perm. After that, whatevr I put in my hair stays in it. Is it true that the perm takes better to dirty hair? Or is this a myth?

Well I haven't reached the point of where I need a touch up but I normally wash my hair at least a week before my next touch up. I have been using S-Curl a while and it doesn't really make what I have of a new growth smooth.

The activator helps to soften and moisturize the hair. I use the above to soften my roots while extending my relaxers. I know other ladies use S-curl for the same purpose and they also use it to keep their ends moisturized.

I heard S-Curl has protein in it that has led to breakage for some women ( I know everyone's hair is different) Is there an activator that's more "smoothing", w/ less glycerine and less protein?

I just started using Wave Nouveau Finishing Lotion. So far it's great. I also use the mist to sptritz the ends. I plan to continue use to stretch my relaxer out to 10 weeks.

i used sta sof fro all the way up until 2 days before my relaxer. it doesnt make your new growth less distinguishable.. just softer.
