And it had three inches of my own hair in it! A lot of my braids are dangling right now and it is scaring me. Do you think the new growth is causing a problem? Should I redo my braids?

HoneyRocket, do you have really long braids? Maybe the braid is too heavy for the amount of hair holding it, this could put a strain on your hair. Do you have micros? I had them once and will never again. They are prone to pulling your hair out if done too tight. New growth is usually strong so I think the braids might be too heavy, also pulling them into a pony can cause it.

I have short braids. They are shoulder length. I do think the braids are too heavy. They are not micros but they are smaller than pencil width. I usually take my braids down when I have 3/4 of an inch to an inch of new growth because of the dangling factor.

Please take them out HR. I lost my edges

to that kind of occurence (hair falling out with braids and I thought it was normal) and 8months after all that the edges haven't fully grown in and are not even all round.
Without edges, you'll be limited in how to wear your hair and much more

HR, did you do the braids yourself? Are you able to? I'll get to why I'm asking this in a bit.

Debyjay is right on the button about them probably being too heavy for your hair if more of the extension hair was used than the section it's attached or if they are too long and thus heavy for your hair.

Now why I was asking if you can redo them yourself is because I find that as my hair grows and so the braid gets loose at the base, it tends to feel a bit painful...as if it'll break my hair off...especially if the braids are too small. If I undo and redo the braid on the newer stronger growth and against my scalp, taking the strain off the first part, it stops hurting and my hair doesn't break. I am not sure how to explain that but that's been my experience. So if you could redo your braids, you could starting regularly feeling for any that get lose and redo them again. Just don't pull your hair; be firm but gentle. Alternatively, how do you feel about having bangs? (Using no extensions for the front of you hair and just braiding your own hair so no weight is put on your hairline. That might help too.) How small are your micros?

I'd just take them out. How long have you had them in? I know those things are so expensive, I'd want to wear them as long as I can.

I didn't braid them myself. I did buy the Hair Lady's video though. I have only had them in for three weeks which is why I am reluctant to remove all of them. I paid over $150 for them. The braids are about the width of a shoelace, maybe a little less. I guess I should redo them. Next time I am getting open ended human hair. They would be lighter and I would be able to redo them myself. The bang idea is a good one.

Wow, your braids sound pretty tiny. If you used synthetic hair, it might be too heavy for your hair.

I have lost braids, but it's because the extension slipped out of my hair. None of my natural hair went along with it (well, except the time that a braid got caught in my ring and was yanked out before I knew what was happening). If you're losing a braid for no particular reason, you should take out your braids and examine your hair to make sure your hair isn't suffering any damage. Hopefully the braider didn't pull your hair too tight & losing the braid isn't a reaction to that. Try human hair, as you suggested - it's much lighter.

i think you should take them out, although i know how you feel with the price and all, but you dont want to lose hair either.

150 is kinda steep for synthetic hair, in philly it costs 150 for human micros.

i just got some human hair individuals that are small, but not micro small.

OMG! I have never heard of anything like this every happening to someone's hair. I've never had single braids, I only cornrow my hair. But this is good to know if I should ever attempt to put in singles. But, even with my cornrows, I take them out after a couple weeks, and then I leave them out for a few days before putting them back in. Because I do my own hair, however, I never put them in too tight because I don't my hair to pull or break. Gosh, the thought of my hair possibly breaking off in my braids make my stomach feel sick

Are you telling us that your hair came out with the braid? OH NO! We can't have this. Take 'em out NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto! She is very beautiful, HR. Is that you?

yes honey rocket, as i have satated b4, i have worn brids for years and i had my last batch last year, and im telling you to take those suckers out....your hair is coming out b/c of the amount of ur natural hair that they used to put in the braid, this would happen to me on a regular basis, and it will pull your hair out from the root and/or brake your hair...the best styles for braids are the larger boxes and make sure its not too tight, the little braids will break your hair, when you get some slippedge and your hair loosens or grows the human or sythetic gets too heavy for the samll amount of hair that was put into the braid, and it results in breakedge, i am still recovering from my sides breaking off , and they are still pretty weak, it wont matter if you use synthtic or human hair, it is the amount of hair u put into the braid....you should have large boxes b/c when your hair does grow you will have enuff hair in the part to support the synthetic or human hair....and of course never too tight...i know we all love the micro braid look and even the smaller braids but , the best braids for our hair would be what we have called the "dookey braids" , im sorry, i hated to say it but that is all i can think of to describe the width...
