A little sad, have a question about length and thinning out

Bre-Bre, don't be discouraged!! Everything will be fine! I agree with the ladies that said if your hair is not breaking or the ends are not split and such it's just the growing phase. Chicoro has an EXCELLENT explanation of how this works, she actually saved me from cutting my hair because I realized it was just growing out at different rates. Check out her explanation and I guarentee you will feel much better.

So true! I felt the same way after reading her explanation.

I think this is the thread where she explained this: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?p=3726237#post3726237

Her post is second from the top.

I must have missed that post. I will find it and read it before bed time tonight. Thank you! :hug2:

Deal! Let's just give our hair lots of tlc and leave it alone for the rest of the year. That's 9 1/2 months Bre, imagine how much growth we will both have by then.

Let's do it!!! I'm going to add it to my sig to hold myself accountable and as a reminder everytime i post :yep:

Yes, I feel this way right now.

I just took my hair out of braids yesterday and normally my hair feels really healthy. However, when I took the braids out and flat ironed it, my hair felt really thin. I'm wondering if the new flat iron I bought may have had something to do with it. I've flat ironed my hair before but with a different flat iron. This one......I dunno.:perplexed

I'm also 17 weeks post relaxer, so that may have something to do with it (with the NG shifting my hair around, etc).

I was going to try and stretch for longer, but I think it's time to just bite the bullet.

Good luck Bre Bre.
You probably have tons and tons of new growth which would explain the feeling that you have I think. That was a great stretch!

Great thread! I have been having this same issue. The longer it gets, the more thin in looks. Lots of good tips in this thread. :)

Just checking in, Bre Bre! Mine was a little thinner when it started growing out; I had some trimmed off, but was able to retain decent length with cornrows and bantu knot twistouts.

I hope you don't have to cut too much or else I will really miss your "puffy brown cloud"! :drunk:

Hair hugs to ya! :bighug:

PLEASE DON"T CUT THAT MIDBACK LENGTH HAIR!

Its lonely at the top, we long haired ladies gotta stick together:rolleyes:

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen: You just gave me the BEST laugh of the night. I know a lot of folx is wondering why i have this white gal in my sig :giggle:

Thanks Tricie for thinking of my "cloud". I have decided not to cut until January (i hope lol)

Yay! I love your hair, and would miss it! And I know you would since you have made excellent progress! :yep:

hey Bre, i thought about you this morning................

ok - so i'd washed my hair the day before, twisted it to mostly dry then brushed it out this morning and wanted to show you something......

the pink line is where the hair starts to thin out some.

2004134757419181967_rs.jpg

now my hair (in general) grows relatively evenly - by that i mean within 1/2 to 1 inch difference between any given section. it's in layers but all the layers (except the crown that lags a bit) are about 12-13" long.

now imagine if your hair doesn't grow as evenly as this, where the difference could be 1-3 (or even more) inches all around. you know the signs of damage but none of it fits your situation........so it basically means, this is a part of your hair's growth cycle - one section may be more active than another at any given time.

now if i were to cut that longer section you see there or even cut at the pink line where it starts thinning out, then later on, when the shorter section decides it's time for it to grow (and catch up with the longer) AND i've whacking away through every growth spurt (where and whenever it occurred) - i would have lost all my progress. At the end of the year instead of growing and retaining 6 inches, i may have only retained 3 :perplexed

my crown seems to be the slowest section to grow and i cannot wait until it has reached where my nape is :perplexed - it's sorta frustrating but i refuse to cut anything or overly stress about it.

i know my hair's in good shape, it's not breaking or shedding so it's just a matter of waiting it out........and maintaining what's already there in the meantime.

i hope you've put your hair back to it's natural state so you can't see what's going on anymore and let your hair get it's grow-on. get back to your deep conditioning routines and give it plenty of tlc, it'll be ok.

i sure hope you feel better today.........

:rosebud:

Not sure if anyone suggested it, but check to see if you are anemic. My hair was thinning, and I had no clue why. I tried everything. I am now taking iron supplements and seeing change. Hopefully everything works out for you.

Hey Bre-Bre

Your hair is probably just a lot more "textured" down at the root/new growth which makes the rest of your hair seem thin. Remember, those ends are the oldest that they aren't gonna dance/scream/shout/grove and do the boogy-woogy like that new growth will :grin:.

Don't chop - just TLC. It will be fine.

P.S. and where is your little mama? I miss seeing her smiling face in your siggy.

I was feeling this but my hair' s grown so i think like a baby it gets fat then shoots up and looks skinny then gets fat again and does it again

Well that' s my theory and I'm sticking to it :yep::lachen:

:raises hand:, my hair definitely looked thinner the longer it grew, and I made matters worse by adding layers (kicks self).

wait a min, senimoni....your hair really looks thinner with the layers????i thought layers were supposed to make the hair appear thicker. I was contemplating getting some for more thickness.... Well, I guess I will not be getting them....
