Hi ladies,

I'm just curious to know if as your hair grew you felt like your hair was getting thin. I haven't noticed any excessive breakage or anything of the like, but when I straightened my hair last night my hair felt thin to me. Do you guys feel this way as well? I'm thinking of doing a pretty agressive trim if I can't get over this feeling...

I feel this way. But my is due to breakage. Are you sure your hair is not breaking or shedding out of the norm?

I've felt this way a LOT:ohwell:

DO NOT trim your hair if the ends are fine. What I've come to realize is that my hair grows in layers, which in turn, can make my hair appear thin or the ends thin when its really just an 'awkward' growing in phase. Put your hair up and away if you have to..that's what I do.

:raises hand:, my hair definitely looked thinner the longer it grew, and I made matters worse by adding layers (kicks self).

When was the last time your hair felt thick?

If it's compared to last week - It could be something as small as a change in products or difference in how high you set the heat to flat iron.

That's all I can think of without seeing any breakage.

Bre Bre...sorry this isn't on a lighter note...

I am going through this too...I have pretty short layers throughout and when I wash it just looks so see through but get this...

I went in today for a deeper trim because the girl I went to Thurs. didn't take enough off. So the girl did a FABULOUS job trimming and right at the end she tells me my hair is "very thin" at the crown. I'm like:nono:. She asks me if I take meds...Huh?:nono: Girl, she rec. some Nioxin Follicle Booster (which was 3 bucks cuz they were trying to get rid of their stock) and sent me on my way...sooooooo

Your not the only one feeling this...just hang in there and like someone said, if your ends aren't bad don't trim...it's probably the layers. Feel better!

Nicki and Senimoni it could possibly be due to the growth rate of the various strands (plus I do have layers i put in myself last year after another frustrating cut I did :nono:). Maybe thats it hopfully.

I don't even know when the last time my hair felt thick to be honest :perplexed I just hope I'm not going bald. :ohwell:

Your hair WILL go through thin patches as it grows. Every hair on your head doesn't grow at the same time, nor does it grow at the same rate. Therefore, the hair closest to your head is going to look thicker, because ALL of your hair (short, long, or in between) will show up there.
The ends, though, are going to go through 'thin' periods, where one section (maybe your nape, maybe your crown) is outgrowing the other sections - and therefore you are only seeing one (or a couple) of 'layers' of hair.

If you cut, all you are doing is cutting off all of the growth that you have gained. Instead, as a PP mentioned, put your hair up. Give the ends a chance to catch up to each other, and then trim them all level - please don't chop off all of your progress.

Also, several ladies have noticed that while they are stretching, their hair appears to be thinning, because the NG is 'shifting' the apparent length of your hair, so if you haven't gotten a perm lately, you REALLY don't wanna chop.

But, altogether, let's say you do 'aggressively' trim your hair. There are a couple of scenarios that could play out.
1) It's a matter of breakage - without finding out what's causing the breakage, now you just have shorter hair to break off.
2) It's a matter of layers (even natural ones) catching up to each other - you'll be right back here, 6 months from now - wanting to do another aggressive trim
3) Your hair really is thinning - are you happy with the length that you are at now? Are you willing to stay there? If so - sure, trim it, and rock on.

G'luck, whatever you decide.

Maybe I need to take some vits or something I just don't know. I'm feeling down in the dumps right now. I would post a picture but you won't be able to tell based on the photo's how thin it feels "to me"

Thanks for the "bop" to the head (think v8 commercials). Everything you are saying is making perfect sense. I don't think I should trim because knowing me it won't end up a trim :nono:

:lachen: Girl, yes, that was a *bop* with much love.

Make this deal with yourself - don't trim, anymore. Only do search and destroys for split ends. If you can't see the hair, it's not long enough to be trimmed. ;)

And, *having looked at your avi, again* aren't you natural? Haven't you been doing a lot of flatironing lately? :look:

how's your hair near the roots Bre?

how are you wearing your hair now? if it's straight or blown out, maybe it's time to go back to napps- wear it fro'd, puff'd or twisted for a while.

if you have no signs of breakage or shedding then it has to be growing in - and no, hair does not all grow at the same time.

don't do anything drastic like *cough*cut*cough* right now.

uhhhhhhhhh no :look: . Weeeeeelllll, maybe just a little

Hey! The hair near the roots looks fine to me. I think i will go back to my naps for a while after this because I am to through. Maybe I won't straighten for a month then revisit and see whats going on. Thanks for the suggestion:yep: I won't cut my hair. I promised myself I would go til jan 09 without a cut to see what my hair is capable of and I need to stick with it.

Uhhmmm!! It's also MUCH easier to ignore thinning ends when you are nappy - all those curls mean that the ends aren't straight enough for you to compare them to each other.

And you KNOW your ends are the weakest/thinnest/oldest bit - if you've been flatironing regularly (fess up now!) they would be the first parts of your hair to show damage....

Aw Bre, I know how you feel :needhug:

I'm going through the same thing, and I'm soooo tempted to just cut it all even at SL.

Sometimes this whole hair thing can be so frustrating and discouraging, especially when things don't go as we imagined or we have a setback. But it WILL get better, all we need is to have patience :yep:

I hope you feel better :bighug:

If you need a good laugh, look at ClassyND's siggy pic-it's hilarious!

I will admit nothing :lachen:

Don't worry Bre, your hair is going to be fine. I was just looking at your fotki and your hair has come a long way. Maybe update your fotki (for yourself and us:grin:) to give yourself encouragement. I think your hair is healthier than you realize. Also, all of us have to be really careful with the heat. After the last time I flat-ironed I noticed a difference in my hair, I've chosen to ignore it for now so that I don't get to cuttin'. I'm determined to reach APL before I put scissors to my head. If it really starts acting up I will cut it though:look:. For now I'm keeping it twisted and bunned, my hair is happy with the low manipulation.

Hey Bre!

Your hair looks great. Dont trim unless you have actual breakage.

You are probably in a ackward stage.

I am in a ackward stage right now and I find it super hard not to think abou trimming some more (I have already trimmed once :nono:)

I think you are right about the ackward stage. To be honest though, i hate to admit it, but when I look at my hair I compare it to the dsylla's, dlewis's, the list goes on and on, and I don't feel my hair measures up. So when i have this "setback" it makes me mad :perplexed Just being honest...

Deal! Let's just give our hair lots of tlc and leave it alone for the rest of the year. That's 9 1/2 months Bre, imagine how much growth we will both have by then.

Bre-Bre, don't be discouraged!! Everything will be fine! I agree with the ladies that said if your hair is not breaking or the ends are not split and such it's just the growing phase. Chicoro has an EXCELLENT explanation of how this works, she actually saved me from cutting my hair because I realized it was just growing out at different rates. Check out her explanation and I guarentee you will feel much better.

Yes, I feel this way right now.

I just took my hair out of braids yesterday and normally my hair feels really healthy. However, when I took the braids out and flat ironed it, my hair felt really thin. I'm wondering if the new flat iron I bought may have had something to do with it. I've flat ironed my hair before but with a different flat iron. This one......I dunno.:perplexed

I'm also 17 weeks post relaxer, so that may have something to do with it (with the NG shifting my hair around, etc).

I was going to try and stretch for longer, but I think it's time to just bite the bullet.

Good luck Bre Bre.
