A good starter set ??

Morning Everyone,

Ok. ((BIG SIGH)) I plan NOT to go to my stylist today so that she can fry my hair. It is to dry. After work I am going to pick up some products and tend to my hair myself today. I just need some advice. Are these products good for my first start? If not, what would you suggest or please...tell me about your big guns that you pulled out when you began your journey to better hair health?? Ok, I plan to pick up Mizani Shampoo and condtioner, and deep condition with ORS Mayo. Oh, and I guess I'll get some Aveda or Infusium Leave In Conditioner, and some sort of frizz serum. I plan to do a braid out. I guess I'll oil my hair with the Fantasia Oil or Wild Growth Hair Oil that I have at home. I hope this is a good way to start. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Blessings,

Hi Compassion and welcome to the board.

If I were you, I would leave out the frizz serum. A lot of that "frizz ease" stuff is made out of mineral and/or petroleum and they actually don't work.

Now as far as a starter set. Hmmmmm? I would start with Suave coconut conditioner (for conditioner wash), Creme of Nature shampoo, Eulence shampoo, a good clarifying shampoo for buildup, Aubrey's GPB protein conditioner, Motions Moisture Plus conditioner, WGO, Extra-virgin olive oil, honey to mix with your conditioner and my hair cannot live without the Infusium 23 leave-in.

Morning Compassion,

Do you have a lye or no lye relaxer in your hair? And what products are you currently using?

That Suave Conditioner is great for conditioner washes. Would work well after your workouts and it's cheap!!

Crysdon: I like to use after a shampoo too and then follow up with my regular conditioner. Works great!! Really works the kinks out!! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thank you Crysdon. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Wow. Well..if will try to see if I can locate those items. Now I've seen Suave, but not the coconut kind. Maybe Walmart or Sally's will carry it. That's my only dilemma. In the city I live in, they really don't cater to our haircare needs in most of the stores. Bless you!

Nitaaaaaaa, hey! Actually, I have a no lye relaxer I believe. Whatever kind my stylist uses--and you know that that is a mystery to me! /images/graemlins/confused.gif I always thought that products that are advertised for "anyone" to use, were not formulated especially for us and our dry hair. I guess I am wrong and still learning. But I will definately check out the Sauve. I have Cream of Nature for Dry Hair already at home too. I have been using that, and the ORS Mayo when my hair dressor can't pencil me in. And I like the cream setting lotion by Revlon. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

You'll definitely find it at Walmart. I even found it at the grocery store.

Nita, thanks for the tip. I never thought to use it AFTER a shampoo too. That sounds like a keeper.

Okay sister friend, you are definately a hairdressers delight. So was I. I didn't know at one time either... LOL... /images/graemlins/blush.gif

You might try asking especially if you are going to go back to her.

It could make a difference in how you use your products.

I found out that with a no lye relaxer I can't use a protein conditioner more then once a month because it dries my hair out.

So, I use a moisturizing conditioner every three days and also following my once a month deep conditioning treatment. Made a big difference.

Yes Nita, I believe I am a delight to a hair stylist. My money has been wasted. I don't MIND paying either, if you do a good job. /images/graemlins/frown.gif Shoot, I am the most understand person you've ever want to meet. She'd show up late, crack gum, have people waiting, and go out and work her second job at the cross walk, while people are under the dryer or in the sink! I know it sounds funny, but she sure can lay some hair! But, I need to find someone else. Because I don't want my hair to end up "lying" on the floor when she's finished frying me up. Don't get me wrong, I treat others like I want to be treated and am very understanding. But I believe I have reached my breaking point with her--so has my hair. /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Now that is some serious slackness!!

Nita, I believe I was wrong. I have a lye relaxer, I think. Whatever Affirm is, that is what I have. I remember seeing an Affirm tub.
