How are you bunning? Are you retaining length by frequent bunning? What is your before bed regimen? I have been bunning this past week and at night I put my hair in four to six plaits. The problem is even though I am moisturizing and finger combing I am losing some hair, it seems like breakage because they are in pieces. I am usually up on my protein and moisturizing, but I am trying this whole only washing once a week thing. I don't know if this is going to work out for me, but it does make it easier for me to have a professional hairstyle that transitions easily to a workout style.

Well I'm not all 4B - but if I may chime in, my bunning style includes gel and a scarf and I don't take it down at night. If anything, I oil the ends at night, wrap my hair up in a scarf and wear it the next day like that. I may only take my bun down every other day or every two days to co-wash, rinse the gel out and do it over.

HTH!

Yup what she said... When I bun I don't take the bun down every day. I remove the pins, ponytail holder or whatever scarf it up and go to bed. I don't use gel so I don't need to wash as often...I use water & grease or oil.

I agree with everything said above. My middle and nape sections are completely natural. I keep the middle and back sections moisturized and braided in four braids (parted in middle, two braids on each side). I moisturize and lightly brush the front section back to make a ponytail with my braided sections. I use bobby pins to attach the faux bun and I am done. at night I take off the bun, remoisturize my hair, and sleep in a silk scarf. I moisturize with the braids in. I use Taliah Wajid Mist Bodifier almost daily.

I'm not 4B either, but I've recently decided that bunning is going to be my main protective style for the next few months so your thread caught my eye. Perhaps you don't need finger comb every night. Like some of the other ladies said, I suggest taking the bun down, moisturizing and then tying it down with a scarf for the night. Even better, perhaps put it in one or two big pin curls (does that make sense?) before you tie it down. That's worked for me. Good luck!

I understand what you all are saying but the only problem is I can't go to sleep with loose hair. I would be asking for trouble if I did that.
