Im gonna do my first protein treatment tonite - Nexxus Emergencee. Do you guys think I should clarify first? I havent clarified in years.. But I wasnt sure if this would be drying to my hair? I plan on doing a deep moisturizing afterwards (ORS Replenishing Pak or NTM Mask, not sure which one yet).

Also, where can I buy Giovanni (sp?) Direct leave in? Do I have to order it online? Or would it be in @ the BSS/Sally?

Lastly, is there a thread (I havent been able to find one specifically, maybe Im not searching correctly) that disusses why some ppl use products that dont contain 'cones'? Im not understanding that one.

Thanks to ya'll again.. :) sorry so many questions...

I think it's always best to clarify before doing any type of treatment, so the treatment can penetrate the hair. Clarifying does not necessarily have to be drying/damaging to the hair. Find a gentle clarifying shampoo. Personally, I just use neutralizing shampoo, but you can try something like V05 Kiwi Lime Squeeze or Nexxus Aloe Rid. Both can be found at a drugstore. Also, unless you're certain how your hair reacts to protein, I'd suggest not using an ORS Pack as your post-Emergencee moisturizer. You may want to choose a conditioner with no protein or with protein listed as one of the last ingredients. The ORS Packs contain a moderate amount of protein.

You can find Giovanni Direct at Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, or a similar health food store.

There are several threads about 'cones, but basically, 'cones (silicone derivatives) are not ALL BAD for the hair. They provide "slip" which helps with detangling. The problem arises if you use cones frequently, as they can build up on the hair and block moisture out of the hair cuticle. This leads to dryness and breakage over time. If you use products containing water-insoluble cones, you may have to clarify more often to eliminate buildup. Water-soluble cones are easily removed from the hair with water and don't generally buildup. I personally limit my use of cones to my weekly deep conditioners, since I learned that daily use of products with cones leaves an icky film on my hair.

Here's a link that gives a bit more info about cones:

Thanks so much!!!!! :D

Do you think the Neutrogena Triple Moisture Mask is okay? Or should I go w/ the Humectress?

I haven't used either, but either one should be fine. They're both very popular among members.

Not to confuse you, the other poster gave good advice, but...

In the future if you are in an experimenting mood, I have used ORS pak following a protein treatment (aphogee) and I find that treatment to be more moisturizing than some of the other conditioners I've tried. I assume you wanted to use it because you find it to be moisturizing more so than your other conditioners. I will be doing an aphogee treatment today and following it up with an ORS pak:)

I was waiting for you to pop up, girl!

I agree with you, I've used ORS Paks after a protein treatment with no problems:) , but we all know folks have different tolerance for protein. Come to think of it, I think ORS has mostly collagen in it, which really wouldn't hurt the hair.
