Okay, so after 2 years this how far my hair has progressed (yeah!). Question: is that much hair loss (after taking out a weave, which I wore for a month) normal? Also, as you guys can clearly see, my hair is a little thin. Any advice on thickening it up?

Sorry, I forgot to attach pics of where I started. The attached photos were taken July 2008.

Oh wow! You shaved it all off? I BC'd in April and I'm an extremely slow grower. I hope in two years my length is at least the same length you show here.

I have fine hair which could be perceived as thin but my hair coils very tightly so you really don't see that it's fine. I think your hair stretches more so you may perceive it as thin. I think your hair looks fine.

As far as the amount of shed hairs after a weave take-down, I don't know.

Thank you for posting the pics.

That's great progress!..the shed hair does seem to be a bit much for one month...so one suggestion I would make is taking garlic suppliments to help slow down the shedding..it helps me when my hair is weaved up...or free...otherwise..keep up the great work!!

Are you taking biotin? I understand that helps to thicken hair up. Great progress, keep up the good work!!

Great progress.:clapping: That seems like a normal amount of shedding for 2 months. As for thickening, I'm not aware of any products that actually do this but I think Biotin helps and I would suggest you try Henna.

biotin + no/low heat (air dry) + castor oil + frequent cowashes

(i read that black tea rinses help).... i feel the remedy largely will depend on if it's thinning vs. your normal

In his book, YOU Being Beautiful, The Owner's Manual to Inner and Outer Beauty (pg. 80), Dr. Oz stated that L-lysine can help hair grow thicker (500-1000mg). He also mentioned that 'saw palmetto and the oil in avocados may slow hair loss and promote hair growth by preventing' DHT's affects on hair follicles.

B vitamins are also important per the above mentioned book (B6, biotin, and folate for slowing hair loss and pantothenic acid and niacin for promoting hair growth).

I take all of these vitamins and then some and eat at least two avocados/week :sekret:.

congrats on your progress!

As far as thickening it up, i agree that co-washes, biotin, and henna helps. Also maybe a super b-complex vitamin too. I've read people say that mega-tek helps with thickening (and growing) the hair. I haven't tried it for that purpose yet, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Would you mind sharing what growth you've experienced since incorporating these vitamins into your regi? What was your starting length before taking? How long have you been taking them? Length now?

You didn't waste anytime with your BC! Castor oil is good for thickening up edges, maybe it will thicken up the rest of the hair.

You are making good progress and your shrinkage is out of this world!

The only one I've been taking long term is the L-lysine. I've recently started back with the biotin. I just started taking the saw palmetto and pantothenic acid (about two weeks with the SP and a week with the PA).

My hair has never been thin and I just cut all of the relaxed parts off so it is hard to say for a certainty that I'm getting tangible results at this point. I plan on doing a comparison between now and December to see if growth and thickness changes are apparent.

ETA: I can say, however, that my shedding has indeed been dramatically reduced. I used to have goo gobs of shed hair on wash day, and that was even when I was combing my hair everyday. Now, I comb my hair 1-2 times a week on wash/co-wash day only and the shed hair is negligible.

You did not mention that you were or were not on any vitamins! The OP made some wonderful suggestions as far as vitamins. Some ppl's hair grow naturally slower than others. I am also a slow grower but my hair is thriving bc I am on a vitamin regimine and also use JBCO, MT and baggy every single day and night!

But I do think that you've made tremdous progress from where you started tho! I would also suggest that you start massaging yr scalp too at least for 5-15 min per day. You would be surprised at the stimulation it has as far as growth affects.

It will take time but your hair is growing. I would suggest looking into the OP post suggestions seriously. She has made some excellent points as far as what you should incorporate.

Thanks guys!! It's a been a journey. I am very grateful to all of you, if I hadn't found this website I have no idea where I (nor my hair) would be today. You guys are great. I am looking forward to year three. Stay tuned.

No, I wasn't using any vitamins. I really do need to incorporate them into my diet. I wear a weave (that's how I got the growth) so it was only a month's worth of shedding.

I will definitely massage and take my vitamins.

My hair is fine. I had just taken the weave out and hadn't washed my hair yet. When I went to the hairdressers and she blowdried my hair it was actually longer (Yeah!!).

I am a slow grower so I understand. I am sure that you will have amazing growth. I have a tendency to play with my hair when its out so a weave works great for me. You may want to try a weave and see if it works for you.

Happy growing!!

Thank you for this information. I am going to try and find this book and take a peak inside.
