I plan to get box braids again this weekend. The last ones I had I paid $140, braided to the end, past bra-strap. Some people told me that's too much $$, yet I don't see too many women with braids braided to the ends.

Am I paying too much? And if so, where in nyc can I get a cheaper price?:D

Well that's not too much in my area (DC/VA/MD). In fact, the girl that does my hair charges $170(charges me less) but they're the size of a pencil. I LOVE that style and she hooks me up all the time. Only takes her 3 hours too! I know you're in Crooklyn (my native home) but to me, that's not too much. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

I think that is a pretty good deal. I live in South Carolina and I know of people spending close to 200 dollars, price of hair included on braids. A friend of my sister gave me a discounted rate of 100 dollars but that does not include her providing the hair, but i prefer my mother doing them for me. Its free and i trust her to handle my hair.

No... I paid $200 and that's the standard price around here. $140 isn't bad but if you can find someone to do it cheaper and they do a good job. I say go for it.

Heck, I think $140 is a great deal as long as the braider does a good job. I know where I live (St. Louis) it's hard to find someone who will do a head of good box braids for under $180.

The lady that did my box braids did an excellent job and won me over as a customer. She charges $85 bucks and is located in the bronx.

PM me if you are interested. She also braids to the end and is very gentle on your scalp.

*it is best to get there early cause everyone is usually waiting for her.

Thanks ladies! I guess I'll stay there. The good thing about them is that they're not crazy-crowded on the weekends, and the owner is usually there watching the braiders to make sure they're doing a good job.

$140 is a "good deal"??? Sheesh! I must be cheap, then. I want braids, but I don't want to spend $100+ on them.:look: I just don't have time to do them myself. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet, though.

Anybody have an idea of what a set of individuals or kinky twists would cost in Atlanta?

I agree with the other ladies. The prices stated in the majority of the responses are the prices in my area. FL. I think that is really good if she is doing a great job. I paid more for my kinky twist:perplexed

Sh*t!! Dat is very high for my area...the most they charge here is 75.00-90.00!! I guess there are some perps to livin down south.

Good in comparison to what the normal prices are... I do believe the prices for braids are getting out of hand...
You're sure right about that. That's why I can't hate on ladies who get great deals on braid prices and a great head of braids to go along with it.

That's a good price. That how much I paid for my last set of braids, your paying for quality. And if it lasts you for 2-3 months then it's worth it because if you get your hair styled on a weekly basis then it ends up being more than braids alone.

$140.00 is what I pay for the exact same service. I guess I say that what you are paying is okay. I do agree with a previous poster when it was said that the prices are getting higher with seemingly no cause.

In my braider's defense, I don't mind paying her prices because that joker is quick! She finishes my entire head - braided to the ends in about four hours and the size of my head ain't no joke .

not sure where u r located, but if u r in the nyc area, there is a place called billie jeans in harlem (116th street and Lenox). my hair is about 2 inches from bra strap(im 5'8) and they charged $120 to braid down to the end. when i went in there they gave me a hard time and noboby wanted to do my haor because they thought it was "so long". but i got a girl to do my hair and they braided it down to the ends (every 4th or 5th braid i eould remind her to braid al the ay down because sometimes they try to be slick). i got medium sixed box braids and they came out really nice. in april. i got the front in corn rows and the back in box braids and they charged me $85 (braided all they way down). they are pretty good. they are african and have bout 30 braiders int eh store (i must warn u though---it is like a sweat shop--the girls are packed up on one another

I think that is a great price for your hair length, they were human hair braids right? I went to billie jeans once for that and had a similar experience to tsturnbu the difference is I didnt think I had to stay on them and she did not braid them all the way to the end. That experience really soured me on them. Where did you go BklynHeart?
