Hi Poohbear!

I got your PM and decided to post here just in case someone else had a similar question.

Procedure of my blowout:

1. Shampoo and deep condition
2. Detangler spray/setting lotion
3. part 3 rows going down head
4. apply 6-7 med.-large size rollers going down the center row
5. apply 6-7 med.-large size rollers going down the two sides. (these rollers don't go straight back, but to their respective sides)
6. I'm placed under a dryer for about an hour.
7. The rollers are taken out and you decide if you want your blowout straight or curly.
**I've only gotten curly so the following steps apply only to a curly blowout**
8. sections of the hair are blown dry with an extremely hot dryer and a round brush (round brush makes sure the curls aren't blown striaght)
9. after each section is blown, the hair is pinned up until completion
10. sections are taken down and a very small amount of shine spray is applied.

As you can see, there aren't many products used. From my own little experiment with upkeeping the blowout I use 6 sponge rollers (covered with wrapping paper). Four down the middle and two for the sides (one on each side). With doing this, I was able to keep the blowout looking good for two weeks.

The only thing that keeps me from doing this blowout on my own is that round brush. I don't know about yall, but I think you should have a liscense in order to operate one.

I'd be afraid to do a blow out on my hair. I wouldn't know what the heck I was doing. But nice tips though.

Hey Jennifer...your hair looks fabulous with the Dominican Blowout...

I agree with you. The round brush looks positively scary! Once when I was a kid I got a friends hair all tangled up in one. I couldn't get it out! I felt so bad. I have been afraid of those things ever since!

Thanks Sherry! This is only my second blowout and I got them just short of a month apart. I'm planning on getting them done every 2 weeks. If I start to notice spliting or thinning I'll get them every 4 weeks.

Dang...I want a dominican blowout but we do not have those kind of shops here in Memephis. I wonder.....round brush huh???
I need a dryer stand to try this one.

The first time I used a round brush, my hair got stuck around it as well

I totally agree. I know if I tried it myself, I will be walking around with two strands on my head

The heat of the dryer glides the brush through the hair very easily. If you get a good brush and dryer its easy. I use the denman boar brush with a ceramic center.

yesterday I actually pressed my roots with the electric hot comb..

My hair is poofy too but oh well...I need to find a good setting lotion. I tried nexxus verastyler but it made my hair stiff and sticky.

Any recs?

JenniferMD,

Who do you go to for wash and sets when you have lots of newgrowth?
I am 11 months into my transition. When I walk into the salon, all the stylists run!
