Tex-Laxed/Relaxed Ladies: Which protein conditioner do you use before neutralizing?

Please help. I am all out of my beloved Jehri-Redding veggie protein which I usually mix with ACV. I really wanted to relax today. What do you guys recommend as a substitute?

I use Joico K-Pak as my mid protein step. However, next time I relax I will mix the K-Pak with Biolage Cera repair as I use a no-lye relaxer.

Sally's GVP works as well.

last time i relaxed, i used aphogee 2 minute before neutralizing. next time i think i'll use my ion reconstructor.

You ladies are awesome! I was thinking of the Aphogee 2 min or the Joico but wasn't sure if they were strong enough- thanks for the suggestions!

Taz- did you think that the Joico wasn't sufficent alone?

Redken Deep Fuel
*Next Relaxer I may use either Tigi Dumbe Blonde or Nexxus Keraphix*

The Week Before I always use Nexxus Emergencee with Heat

Joico alone was definitely sufficient. It is the only mid-step protein that left my hair feeling thick. I want to add the Cera-repair to counteract the dryness.

I have been using the Cera-Repair lately and it has taken my hair to whole new level!

It is a mid-protein relaxer step.

You thoroughly rinse out the relaxer and BEFORE you neutralize, apply a protein for about 5 minutes. Then neutralize.

We do this 'cause after you rinse the relaxer, your cuticles are wide open. Applying a protein at this point allows the protein to seep in and when you neutralize it closes the cuticles with all of the goodness and strength inside.

I would like to know the same. I've always done my protein treatments after neutralizing but not before. Does it make a difference by doing it before?

After you've rinsed out all traces of relaxer, apply the protein conditioner to hair and allow to sit for a few minutes. Then rinse it out and proceed with neutralizing

The reasoning behind it is that immediately after a relaxer, your hair's pH level is raised and the cuticles are wide open. This is the BEST opportunity to add protein, because the hair will be much more receptive to it in its weakened state.

ETA: It's best to do it before neutralizing because the neutralizing shampoo will lower the hair's pH and the hair won't be as open to receiving the protein.

also, if use the neutralizing shampoo with a color code, it takes half as many shampoos to get the suds to turn white. i use isoplus.

Perfect explanation. I did this for the first time in September and my results were PHENOMENAL.

I use this as well for my pre-neutralize protein. It is actually recommended in the Affirm Relaxing System to do it in that order.

Its not a full protien, but I use Motions Moisture Plus, although I think next time I will use CPR or DPT
