I've tried letting mine grow out, but it looks horrible-has if the hair back there had broken off. It also grows all the way down my neck, and is terribly dry and brittle. NO gel, glycerin, shea butter, cocnut oil, ETC. I have used has worked on this area. I used to think that if I kept it moisturized it would catch up and blend with the rest of my hair but it NEVER grows longer than an inch or two. I don't know what I should do about it :ohwell:

I can't find a picture of it. I had a halle berry cut years ago and the stylist would take the clippers and just even the hair line out in the back. Kind of like men do when they get a hair cut.

But on a woman, they only line the back edges so smooth it out. It doens't look as "sharp" just a cleaner edge. I've seen relaxed women do it often, but it never occured to me as a natural.

It might look weird, especially when it grows back.

if you keep up with it, it wont look bad. i would get lined up every time i got my hair trimmed. then i would have clippers at home for a friend or bf to keep up with in between trims

that's my kitchen to the T!!! the only time it even looks half way good is drenched in conditioner! and that leaves so much build that i dont do it... and mine grows way past the rest of my hairline back there too... but i just forget it now, until i hear a sideways comment about it, then i get flash backs to middle school and automatically get offense and angry!!! lmao

I'm getting ready to cut my nape hair with scissors. No matter what I do to it, it curls right back up on it's own. I wish I knew how to get it to grow in with the other longer hairs. :perplexed

No mine are thicker and way longer on the sides. Yours looks soft and like baby hurs :)

I had a thread on here about my first time wearing my hair out. Let me find it: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=374095

You can't see my kitchen though. I really never look at it. And now I'm kind embarrassed to show it. :look:

But I might trim the sides even, cause yours is cute.

Ahh, okay, I remember that post. Your hair is fab. We can't see what your nape looks like, so you'll be the best judge. If you feel they're coming down too far on the sides, go ahead and line it up. If you don't like it, those short hairs will grow back very quickly.

I've never heard of this "lining" thing but I have a nape bridge:giggle: that I cut every now and then. Funny thing is, I'm mostly oblivious to it but on the occasion that I wear my hair up and catch the back of my head in a mirror:blush: I cut/shave it off to make it even. It's not a matter of texture bc it looks just as weird relaxed and straight as it does natural and kinked.

Here's a pic, please don't laugh.

As for the texture, I think it's just important to keep it moisturized. I have what some would call "beady-beads" all around my hairline and nape and I think they're cute!

Yes!!!! This is how mine looks. The longish parts just extend further into the middle.

Shave???? W-w-what??? Don't you dare shave!!! :bat:

A brush will take care of that. It won't make it slick down like type 2 or 3 hair gelled down, if you're a 4 like me, and why should it? But it will make it look neat and not like taco meat. It works on hairlines and kitchen.

When I press my hair, since I use a flat iron with a lip, there are those few millimeters near my scalp that don't get pressed. And yes, I have peppercorn in my nape as clearly seen here :giggle:
PressedHair61509-vi.jpg

But you wouldn't tell when I brush them and I didn't apply any gel either:

This doesn't look bad to me so as stated, just roll with it if this is what you are talking about...

Your kitchen is so cute!!!!!

LMAO@Title Thread!!! Blahahahaha!!!!

I would rather wet that area and slap on some gel. I'd be afraid of the new growth and how awful it looks when it grows back in. I think its kinda like waxing your eyebrows, once you do it you'll have to keep doing it or else it just looks bad.

What's taco meat? mince beef? I aint never seen anyones hair look like mince. my nape has that W shape but the hair is a loose texture, I have two shorter patches that curl but moisturiser + brush = smooth.. I couldn't have a razor on the back of my neck, I'm lethal enough with a flat iron

Your hair is really growing. Why you been hiding it from us? :look:

Hiding? Girl, you just haven't been on the hair forum. I don't think there's any post of mine that doesn't show my hair. I think that particular pic must've made its appearance about ten times. :giggle:

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I haven't been feeling like doing ish w/r/t caring for my hair, and so I dunno how much progress I'm making now.

I was just looking at my taco meat all up in my kitchen last night. :lachen:

I had a photo taken of my bun, and there was taco meat galore---all on my neck. I need to get that stuff moisturized, brushed up and ultimately lined pronto.

I however did the next best thing, I tried to crop out as much of this mess as I can because I'm keeping the bun pic as one of my starting points and don't want to be distracted with the extra hair, plus it's not cute.

Your hair is so pretty. It's twists in a bun? Very neat, how long is it right now?

You are so right, i don't come over her much anymore so i'm sure i've missed a lot (except for 3 specific threads as of late  :lachen:)

Anywhoo, your hair is really pretty. You're doing a fab job :yep: If not doing much is working for you then keep that up.

my kitchen wont do this... no matter how much gel, conditioner, shea butter, concrete i use...

it always puffs up when full dried lol

Mine could NEVER look like that either. Even when slicking it into a high ponytail, it never lays down. Just "curls" (more like knots) back up looking all decrepit and hairy down my neck. It even makes a crunchy sound from time to time even after it has just been moisturized :nono:

Thank you, OcoLove! You truly made my day.

Yes, my hair is double strand twisted--small twists--into a bun.

My hair is about 2 inches from APL. I feel like it's been there forever. :wallbash: I will continue to be patient and keep my hair moisturized and bunned for awhile. I'd love to be WL, but I'm happy with full BSL too!

So you'll be APL in April! Do you need your ends clipped? I've tried to twist that small, but I usually end up making them too big anyway.

The hair on the back of my neck is actually very fine but it still looks neater when it's trimmed up to me. I either get my hubby to line it up (lightly) I don't like it to look too perfect if that makes since, just neat. Or either I do it myself with one of those eyebrow razors.

:needpics:

How long is your kitchen. If it is longer than mine, it might not coz the weight of the hair will make it fall out. But combing it out, as I do with a brush, does stop it from looking separate (taco meatish?).

You can see from this pic of old cornrows that I forgot to brush, that I have the same issue at my hairline: little beads of hair:
CurlformersFirstAttempt-vi.jpg

But brushing the hairline "combs out" the beads so they look a lot neater:

Ocolove I saw your hair in the thread you linked, your hair is absolutey beautiful:yep:

I read on in this thread and I saw that some ladies have baby hairs all the way down their neck.......I def don't know what that's like.....I guess if its all disheveled lookin then that would def pose a neatness issue

this is my "kitchen" never heard that word before until recently:giggle:.....I pretty much just let it do what it do.

I thought we was scissorphobes up in this piece?? :lol:lmao

Also Nonie I concur with the poster that said you're hiding all that gorgeous hair from us, you should have a siggy putting that fabness on display and I demand a tutorial on yur wet to dry flat ironing and putting in braid extensions!!:bat::giggle:

I can't do the taco meet look, I clean up my edges, I don't do a manly lining, and I gel and brush down the rest. I don't like the look of hair all the way dine the neck all rolled up. It looks unkept to me.

I was hoping for APL in March, but I'll take April too! :yep:

I haven't trimmed my ends since July--Yodie from the board helped me with that. I do routinely search and destroy the front sections of my hair, however.

Don't make me hurt you BMP putting me on the blast like this. :bat:

I'm not good at tutorials but I've tried to explain both of the above in past threads. :ohwell:
