Hey Ladies -

I twisted my hair yesterday and did a cute little up-do. I looked at the back and my "kitchen" was messing up the style. So, I'm wondering if I should just roll with it, or should I get a "line up" back there.

Do any naturals get linings, or do you embrace the taco meat :)

Linings scar my neck up.

I preferred to trim my beady beads at home. :giggle: No line, but no scabs, either.

that is when I was natural

i hate the term taco meat. bleh. anyways no i don't line up my edges. i think that looks weird

I've never heard of that before. :look: If you mostly wear your hair nappy, just roll with it. Does gel help at all? How's it gonna look if you lined back there? :look:

I liked my beadies when I was natural. It was the rest that irritated me. :giggle:

I just never thought about it before. When I was relaxed I got it lined, but I never thought about it before yesterday as a natural.

Consistent with my anti-salon views, I do not get them lined up. Sometimes I oil and brush them so they don't look as buckshot-y. But they curl back up in a short time again. Oh well.

Maybe I'll do like Fluffy and cut them off with scissors.

I think mind grows further down. Like I'm looking at your pics, and your edges in the back seem to grow in a nice U-shape. Mine grows like vampire teeth. Like normal in the middle, then further down on my neck at the sides.

I embrace mine. It's so thick and I just love curling it with my fingers.

From afar it can look pretty scary. DH is like :nono:

I truly abhor the term "taco meat":nono: let's use more positive terms to reference our hair.

Onto the topic at hand......just embrace it or find a technique at making it look nice:yep:

Have we ever gotten to see your hair? Anywho, are yours like this:

No mine are thicker and way longer on the sides. Yours looks soft and like baby hurs :)

I had a thread on here about my first time wearing my hair out. Let me find it: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=374095

You can't see my kitchen though. I really never look at it. And now I'm kind embarrassed to show it. :look:

But I might trim the sides even, cause yours is cute.

i get a lining because the little straggly taco meats back there tend to rub against my collar and are dry as the sahara. so they gots ta go.

It doesn't offend me. I first heard the term Taco Meat as it related to a man's chest hair. It wasn't offensive to me - I thought it was funny because thats what it looks like to me.

If you take offense, that was not my intent. But I don't consider it a negative thing. Thanks for your input.

Off Topic: Ocolove, when I saw your pictures and read that post in the thread you created, I got a little teary eyed. I felt the same way when I cut off my hair in April. Even though I had already been natural for several years and worn my hair in various styles, cutting it short forced me to appreciate it in new and exciting ways. And yes, not many can understand that feeling, so what you wrote perfectly captured how I felt. Also, you are very pretty. :yep:

On Topic: Personally, I prefer to get the lining. :yep:

I let the buckshots chill. If I am concerned about them, a little moisturizer plus a scarf/headband while they dry gets 'em straight till I shower or something.

well, i dont think you should cut it. just try to smooth it out, maybe some extra brushing mixed with water and gel. i refuse to cut any hair off my head until the due time. i embrace the natural, i have a proud feeling all the time that im natural. so i say dont cut,

even when i wear my hair straight my kitchen likes to act a fool lol see

i used to get all that lined up... but now i'mma lazy fool!!!

and i called it taco meat too :( i never even thought of it being negative... just something we grew up saying around here... :(

:yep: :yep: :yep:

Why anyone would use that term or how it originated is beyond me...

I can respect your opinion, but I don't really understand getting on a soap box about it.

The term Buckshots makes me cringe a little bit, but I wouldn't come in someones thread and try to chastise them for using it.

People use words for different reasons. I don't assume it's negative simply because I wouldn't use the word. Buckshots is a word I have history with. Taco meat is a term that came from a joke about chest hair. It's a much lighter word to me...so I can't really take on someone else offense where I don't feel it - particularly because I'm not sure why it's offensive to you or others.

Perhaps we want to have a discussion about words and how we use them in relation to hair! Cause that's cool and maybe it's a valuable discussion for some of us.

I just want to reiterate that the term does not offend ME. Thats why I used it.

I leave it alone.

ETA: I've found that moisturizing and smoothing my "kitchen" with my hand helps a great deal. It feels soft and doesn't look unruly.

Your kitchen is pretty to me too! It's wild, but in a natural, seductive kinda way. :spinning:

Okay, okay, I'll try it. I think I'll brush them up. I'm looking at my mom's and hers is the same way. It's like you can make a twist out of it, it's so long.

I've been ignoring it, so thats why it looks so unruly. I won't cut it (yet), I'll try to show it some attention and see if I can get it to flow.

lol @ taco meat; that brings some weird imagery to mind, I've never heard that...
Does getting a lining mean shaving it off???
I didn't know people did that!!
I hate when the kitchen gets like that, it looks such a mess!, that's why I hated wearing high ponytails, I would wear my hair down or a low ponytail to hide it! grrrr

and mz. mo mo your hair is sooo pretty!!! even the kitchen!

lol thanx. that's weird for me to hear as my kitchen caused hours and hours of teasing all through middle school up until i finally let my friend line me up freshman yr of h.s.

i used to cry so hard about my kitchen :lachen: its silly to me now, but any whoo. i've been letting it play recently cause i'm a hot lazy mess

I can't find a picture of it. I had a halle berry cut years ago and the stylist would take the clippers and just even the hair line out in the back. Kind of like men do when they get a hair cut.

But on a woman, they only line the back edges so smooth it out. It doens't look as "sharp" just a cleaner edge. I've seen relaxed women do it often, but it never occured to me as a natural.

It might look weird, especially when it grows back.
