Which is better: bone comb or Jilbere Shower Comb?

I have both the bone comb and jilbere shower comb and love them immensely. However, if I had to choose one it would be the bone comb because it serves me well on wet and dry hair. With wet hair, I use it extra gently, but it does the job of not pulling out any hair. The Jilbere is difficult to use in styling - esp. creating neat parts and helping hair lie down smooth.
ps. I am not sure what brand my bone comb is.

I've had combs similar to the Jilbere comb and the little bubbles on the ends of those combs have broken off - not good for the hair. Also, no matter how wide a regular comb is, if it is not seamless, then it always takes out a lot more hair than a bone comb. I've found bone combs to be worth the investment. I've been using bone combs from www.hairsense.com. I've heard her ebay (her ebay store is Salon Accessories, Inc.) is cheaper. The combs where good, but she is expensive and her shipping is even more expensive. So when I needed another bone comb I ordered from www.tenderheaded.com. I haven't used them yet, so I cant vouch for them. Also, apparently Mason Pearson makes seamless combs.

I've never purchased/tried a bone comb. However, I do have a couple of Jilbere Shower Combs. I love them. I use them on wet and dry hair. It just glides right through my hair.

I have both. I use my bone comb (not sure of the brand) for daily combing/styling. I bought the Jilbere Shower Comb because my bone combs would always break if I tried to use them to detangle my wet hair. The Jilbere comb is better for wet hair IMO.

I don't own a Jilbere Shower Comb, but I've heard great things about them. I use my bone combs on wet and dry hair and I love them. I just purchased a salon set of bone combs on Ebay, Salon Accessories, Inc. I would suggest for anyone who buys from Salon Accessories, Inc., to make sure you buy the insurance and pay by Paypal. I sent her a money order, and four days later received a "non-paying bidder warning" on Ebay. She lives in the same city and zip code I do, so I knew she got the payment. I had to send a rather nice-nasty email ( :look: ), and she suddenly "found" my payment. This was my first and last order from Salon Accessories, Inc. So, just a heads up.

I have to say that I prefer the Jilbere. Although I still use my rattail bone comb to rollerset, in general I find them to be too sharp. Maybe the hairsense ones are better - I ordered mine from colordesignsystems.com. I don't comb my hair at all when it's dry.

Interesting that you mention this, because when I told her the city where I lived she insisted that I pay for more expensive shipping because she said that people sometimes "lost" packages in my city or some ish like that. It was a little weird. So I ordered from www.tenderheaded.com the the third time that I bought combs. Her combs work well though -- I especially love the detangle rake -- but bone combs are not something that are so exclusive that I am going to put up with stuff like that. It's almost like she didn't trust people in my city. If anyone knows of ther places to buy these two items besides these two sites please let me know.

I have seamless bone combs from hairsense.com and a jilbere shower comb. The jilbere comb works wonderfully on my wet hair; it glides through my hair and detangles it very easily well into my relaxer stretches, but I haven't used it on my hair when it's dry. My super detangle rake comb from hairsense (I think it's # 222, see my journal) detangles my hair very well and is very gentle on my wet hair becasue of the extreme amount of space between the teeth. I think the jilbere comb works just as well as the bone combs in terms of detangling, I just don't like the fact that the jilbere is not truly seamless.

Gotta LOVE that Jilbere Shower Comb!! Great on wet hair, and dry hair. I have bone combs but they come in last place compared to my Jilbere and Conair Shower Combs!

Yeah, this woman seemed extremely shady to me. I had to provide proof of payment to Ebay to prove that I wasn't a non-paying bidder. That really ticked me off because I have 100% feedback, why would I now just stop paying for auctions?!?! :ohwell: I love the combs, but I definitely won't be buying from her again.

I've used the Mason Pearson combs and I don't have anything good to report about them. The teeth are squared off at the end, making it hard for the comb to penetrate the hair smoothly which in turn causes breakage. The best comb that I have had so far was a cheap little tortoise shell comb that I believe was made by Goody and purchased at Sally's years ago. I haven't been able to find those combs since.

I just looked at the bone combs on Ebay, I think I'll be making a purchase today. :)

Thanks for the update on Mason Pearson. I first heard about their seamless combs from hairsense's ebay site.

what is a bone comb i have never heard or seen this before?

From my understanding, a bone comb is made of resin, is heat resistant, smooth and seamless, and therefore, is less likely to cause hair breakage.

I have been looking for them in BSS, but, the "bone combs" that they have shown me aren't the real thing. They are just regular, plastic, caramel colored combs w/ sharp seams. I could just see them slicing the strands of my hair in two. EEK!

<img> So, beware when looking for them, especially, in BSS!

i have a sgower comb. i think its suave or sth. i use it on both wet and ry hair and i just bought a bone comb. i actually prefer the shower comb to the bone comb. best of all is my "horn" comb. i cant use it for detangling though cos it doesnt have wide spaces between the teeth

Could you tell us more about the horn comb? I know it's made out of keratin, keeps out static and is healthy for hair.

i got the small size. apparently, they can also be used to remove gunk from the scalp.....for those that CO wash only. the big size that can also be used for detangling is like 15.99. mine was like 2.80 and shipping was 1.50 (total of 4.30). It is so much smoother than the bone comb .....i just used my bone comb on wet hair and tried to use it to detangle but it didnt work :(. i bought my horn comb from this ebay store.....http://stores.ebay.com/Terminator-9999s-Store...the store also has wooden combs but i didnt get that. HTH. check out my album and see what the horn comb looks like

I only comb my hair when I'm in the shower, with tons of conditioner and while water is pouring down onto it. I just use a conair shower comb and have no problems with it. But now that I read some of these posts I have to stop myself from ordering a bone comb. I like the way they look. I want one.

Have you all noticed any uneven, kinda jagged edges in the teeth of your bone combs? I'll post a pic tomorrow if I'm not being clear.
