I voted "Maybe [please elaborate in thread]" ... It's actually a "Yes, I will lock ... one day".

I didn't think they were appealing either until recently. There is a beauty and versatility I can see in locs that I can appreciate.

Other reasons why I want to loc one day:
1) Let's see ... I've been leisure curled, I've been relaxed, I've been loose natural, ... how about being a loced natural.

2) Once my natural hair reaches BSL or beyond, I think I'll be spending 99% of my time in twists (for maintenance purposes) ... so why not just loc. It'll be lower maintenance too.

ETA: I want locs similar to hers:

I voted maybe. I always thought locks were beautiful! One of my cousins and my best friends hair has been locked for a few years and I have seen how versatile locks could be. I def won't do it now because I just bc'd and I want to enjoy my natual hair loose for a while. I think when I am older I will.
 
I don't have locs. I do think that they are beautiful and I have considered it but I like loose hair. My youngest son (15) wants to loc. I have already called to see how much it'll cost to get coils.
 
I say "Maybe". I'm transitioning now and I'm going to be a loose natural. I may decide to lock it up in the future. I love locks! I think they're beautiful.:yep: I have a male friend that has APL locks and that's so sexy on him.:lick:

Oh yahh. Tell me, what does he do for a living? I always wonder when I see a phyne brother with well manicured locks if he has issues with "corporate" America, you know? Seems women do not have as much issues. :rolleyes:
 
Thought about it...for when I'm older, around 60 - 70 and tired of getting relaxers. I don't think I'd want to learn how to take care of my natural hair at that age, so locking would probably be my option.
 
I live in DC, there are TONS of men in suits with locks around here. My ex managed his department while he started and had his locks.

I don't want to lock. Too limiting for me. But I lurve them.

He's a King of the Highway (Truck Driver).:driver: I've seen lots of brothas in the corporate sector in some of the major metro areas and I wonder the same thing. I think it's so sexy to see a well dressed brotha with locks.:yep:

My boyfriend has BSL or longer (I guess...hard to determine on a guy, lol) locks. He does pretty corporate work. On top of that we live in the south... I won't say they didn't cause issues finding a job, but i do his hair regularly and he keeps them in a ponytail.

I voted maybe. I was sisterlocked from Feb 04 - Jan 08. I loved my locs and sometimes I do miss them, but not the maintenance. I used to do my own maintenance and it would take forever. I was having a major battle with lint and just wanted a change so I combed them out. this time around I'm going to try to stay natural for a while and maybe i'll loc up somewhere down the line.

Lovin, I know this is not your first attempt to lock. Were you just not ready the other times?
 
I would not want them for me personally. But some women can wear them beautifully. If you get them please stay on top of your hair line maintenance.
 
I have seven year-old freeform locs. They are almost butt length and I love them. They are the only way I ever want my hair. I've been natural since '97 and this is my third set of locs. Loose hair was ok, but too much work. I twisted them up one night and freeformed from there. I started out with 78 locs, but between growth and thinning, I have 62 with a few that grew together over time.

Never had any issues with looking "unprofessional." I've taught high school English for three years. The only people who had a problem with my hair were people of no consequence so oh well...
 
I voted maybe - I used to have locks - started with twists, maintained with a crochet hook. I took them out right before I started my healthy hair journey - and I don't see myself putting them back in, anytime soon. I rock twists most of the time, but even still, they give me more 'flexibility' than locks did - and I love the feeling of my loose hair.
 
Maybe. I do want to and I do love the way they look, but I'm too unsure for various reasons.

Ooh, I can't wait 'til my consult. I'm so broke I can't pay attention so gotta wait 'til my NEXT pay, can't even get it tomorrow 'cause going out of town. July 2 will be here before I know it though. Can't wait to see if she's gonna recommend a bc? I want one, but she's insisting I hold off. :rolleyes:

Wanna know the for real?? Well, well, what happened was, is . . . . girl, I am a wishy-washy girl who wants straight hair today, curly tomorrow, in-between the next day, then locks on the 4th day :whyme: No doubt, IF I attempt locking again, I'll do it for a time and when I get tired of 'em, BC and go back to attempting WL hair.

It's so phfun!!!!


I just called "J" and switched my consult from July 2 to TOMORROW!!!!!!!

:yep: Matter of fact I'm on week 5 with my two-strand twists. I'm very excited about the journey.

I reached my waistlength goal as a loose natural. I was unto hiplength as a texlaxer but I still wasn't satisfied. I got mad and told my mother I was going to cut my hair and she said "you grow all that hair and now you don't want it?":rolleyes: I was given the option to have someone style my hair weekly but I turned it down since I'm a DIYer. So one day I did some thinking -I've been a loose natural...I've been texlaxed...hmmm, ok, so what's next:spinning:? I decided to do locs because

- I love to see well groomed locs especially once styled
- I hate detangling my hair and I just like to leave my hair alone

So I'm going from laxed to locs. I still have alot of texture in my hair and my last touch up was in January. I'm not too worried about the fuzzies. I love the fact that I can safely 'wash and go' without worrying about the detangling session. My twists have shrunken up to armpit length in most areas so I'm enjoying the shorter look for now (they were lower midback in the beginning).

I don't intend to be loc'ed forever but for right now no combing fits my lifestyle and I'm very happy.

I have locks and they have been great, I'm ready for something new now though. Don't let anyone tell you that you need to cut your hair to start it though.. I didn't and there is no need to.

Good luck with the transition. The first 7 months are the hardest I think. After that it gets much easier and looks neater and better

I voted no, but I guess I should have said maybe. I did not like them in the past, but the more styles I see, the more I like. I'm just afraid of the day I decide I don't like them and have to spend several days removing them.
 
They look nice on some and I am sure they will look nice on me but I don't want them just not my style.
 
I think locs are beauiful if properly maintained. I don't see why anyone would need to cut their hair to get them though. I believe locs give you many styling options. Locs can be colored, cut, and curled as you would regular hair. The only thing I don't like about them are that they aren't soft. I like my hair soft. Here are some very attractive styles worth considering.

Oh, yeah, that's another reason I'm less than likely to go back to locs - they are hard in my hair. And the more you 'do' to them (esp. coloring!) the harder they get. *sigh*

:grin: I know! Tomorrow is my birthday...I'm trying to figure out what style I'm gonna do for the next few days but I will post pics of my hair.

Here's a pic of my twists after 1 week and freshly washed
