After seeing PinkSkates results with QOD Gold I've really been considering doing the treatment myself. Especially with summer coming, my forehead sweats and I'm "touching up" my sides way too much with the flat iron.

Has anyone bought from ebay? Do you need a cosmetology license to buy from the company?

Does speed of application make a difference? I have a lot of hair & from what I've read, you only leave the treatment on for 5 mins. Will I overprocess the area I first apply the solution to?

After the treatment it says not to tie hair with anything initially, how do you sleep with it, would loose braids be OK? I'm thinking tangles if I didn't do something with it.

LOL, I'd never spend any money on myself if it wasn't for this site.

I'd like to know too. I am interested in DSD giving me my first treatment, but after that would like to know how to do this myself. It doesn't seem to dangerous because there is no lye to burn myself with, but I'm not sure.

I do understand that the BKT is basically a keratin/polymer overlay and "spackle" for the hair, and that it does wear off over time over the entire length.

I have another question too, it looks like you leave the treatment on, does it leave any kind of smell on your hair?

I used QOD max ( plan on using gold next time), got it from ebay my seller was t_kelly*81. I bought 2.4oz for 35.99 and used a little more then 1/2 of it.

I dont think speed of application matters. My hair isnt very long but it took a lot longer than 5 mins to apply to my entire head root to tip. The "processing" has more to do with the heat steps if you ask me.

I slept with a silk wrap tied loosely and on a satin pillow case. I was more concerned about sweating in my sleep than anything else. I had a few bends in the morning that I touched up with the flat iron.

Thank you JayAnn! A silk wrap, great idea.

Were you aware of any odor after you flat ironed the product in? Is there a strong smell of formaldehyde?

No, generally speaking. But I did yoga the next day (not supposed to do anything that might make you sweat) and as my head began heated up I could smell it. So when they say don't workout - don't work out, lol. I just blew it dry with the dryer in the locker room. No harm, I was just annoyed with myself for not following directions.

The QOD could be labeled formaldehyde free. If you check the site, they are so low in formaldehyde that they don't have to mention it on the label. Way under the .02 that the fda recommends. So you shouldn't have to worry about that smell.

Re: BKT QOD Gold Questions

I purchased it on eBay from lonestarbeauty***. They're selling 4oz of shampoo, 4oz of QOD Gold and safety masks.

I read that too, Luckiestdestiny, say, have you done the BKT? If so, how do you like it? I think we have similar hair, I see you & I are both fans of Sabino's Moisture Block threads.

I'm glad you posted that! I just ordered from lonestarbeauty yesterday!

I've read on a couple of threads here that it's important to avoid sodium chloride... :ohwell: so no Aveda Damage Remedy.

I've only read that precaution here, what about other ingredients like sodium gluconate, Sodium Cocopolyglucoside Tartrate or Sodium Cocopolyglucoside Citrate, (the last two are in the Hairveda products I'm thinking of switching to). Will they also shorten the life of the treatment?

Not yet but I've been pming the heck out of people, and reading up on the QOD Gold. I'm leaning towards that one. I made a commitment to stay braided up through the summer, so I won't be doing it until Aug/Sept ish.

Yes I am a fan of the SMB! I'm hoping this is a longer better alternative.:yep:

Bumping to see if anyone knows about avoiding sodium chloride, no chem major here, do you avoid all sodium ingredients or just sodium chloride?

I avoid ONLY sodium chloride products actually only one of my loreal shampoos had sodium chloride in it, I'm pretty much using all the same products...doing my 2nd treatment this week

Hi Dak,
You should pm Veejee! She is sooo helpful and has lots of pics in her fotki... I think she is doing another treatment soon... June or July....also Brandy? I'm thinking of doing it after my C&G in June.... Keep us posted.

Thank you Hothair, so how long ago was your first treatment? I'm really looking forward to being able to workout and not have to feel as though I need to completely redo my hair.

Blessed2bless, I'll do that, thanks!

Br*nzeb*mbsh~II, I bought from lonestarbeauty, it was $30 an ounce.

I ordered two ounces, I'm hoping that's going to be enough. I saw that PinkSkates said she used two, I think she has more hair than me so it should be good.

About 5 weeks ago, BKT has thoroughly spoiled me, I miss the very silky feeling I got initially (first 3 or so weeks) I'm travelling next week so have to do it a bit earlier than I scheduled, I would usually (or plan to) do it every 8 weeks

Dak,

I've had my BKT for a month and I LOVE it! It will be a permanent staple in my hair care. :yep: I only avoid sodium chloride (table/sea salt) some of my shampoos have sulfates but I still use them. I finally found a dandruff shampoo to use since I can't use Head and Shoulders anymore (has sodium chloride). That's the only that's changed for me, no more Head and Shoulders. Other than that I still use my same leave-ins and conditioners. :yep: My BKT photos are in my Fotki :). Feel free to ask questions! I'm texlaxed BTW and I got bone straight results. :yep:

Thanks Veejee! I've been an Aveda fan for years now, using Damage Remedy, so I need a new shampoo. Good to know it's just sodium chloride I will have to avoid.

Your hair is beautiful! I'm looking forward to my hair being easier to manage.

I just saw this. You seem to have wonderful results there! Please make sure to post follow ups after the wash! Just simply gorgeous.

Thanks LD! For all the time it took, I hope it will make a difference. I can see why all the stylists on youtube say they want to straighten the hair first, less work for them.

I'm leaning towards the QOD Gold myself...

ETA: Thanks for sharing Dak, I am about 95% certain I'm going with the QOD Gold.
