Brush your hair back into a ponytail. Get a firm grip around the base of the ponytail and use your other hand to twist the tail into a tight spiral.

Hold the base of the ponytail with one hand, then lift the tail straight up with the other. Begin to coil it clockwise around the base. When you've made half of a circle, release the hand holding the base and use it to hold the forming bun as you continue to coil the tail.

Complete one rotation - a little more if you have longer hair - then tuck the end of the tail under the chignon.

Secure the bun using Amish Hair Pins. Push one pin through at any outside edge, collecting a small amount of the bun as you make the insertion. Secure the opposite side with a second pin.

I'll get someone to take pictures tonight and post them in the morning showing each step.

I'm loving this style. I'm also experimenting with using Ghee on the last 5-6 inches of hair. The ends are very silky and smooth.

That bun is so lovely and shiny!!!!! (amla??)

I use amla as a prepoo but that shine comes from a mixture of Ghee (clarified butter - found at the Indian grocery store), coconut oil and castor oil. I LOVE IT. And the smell is not bad.

What a beautiful bun! So sleek and elegant. Can't wait to see the step-by-step pictures so I can try it myself.

Thanks D!!!! You're the best!

Yes it is a nice classic protective style. It looks so shiny. I really like it.

I purchased a small jar of this

KISSAN Desi Ghee (Clarified Butter)

I mixed two tablespoons of coconut oil (it was solid)
2 teaspoons of Ghee (Liquid)
and a little castor oil (Liquid)

I LOVE IT

The next batch I plan to leave out the castor oil. After a day it a creamy consistency - like a hair cream.
