This is actually very common, I watched a video on Youtube about asian owned BSS's. You should check out www.bobsa.org They were the ones who produced the video on youtube. You wouldn't believe the shady s*** that these bss's pull. It was definately a real eye opener for me.

I went to the website but I still don't see that video. Could please let us know where it is? Thanks

The merchants of the world and counterfitters too.:wallbash:

I try my best to avoid asian owned businesses, unless I'm looking for a knock-off/:blush:

DC area ladies should be careful about Koreans passing off bootleg Natural Oasis . The fake product is called New Oasis, and I seriously doubt it has the same ingredients and prob filled with mineral oil. The real thing is made by Akbar Products and the company has a local dc address. The Korean BSS in Arlington's owner tried to tell me it was the same thing:rolleyes:, and now they know that I know better and IF I come in there they leave me alone and let me shop. I try to avoid Asian BSS, especially after I saw the BOBSA video, but in a pinch, or for some Dominican products, I will go to them, if I am pressed and don't want to pay/wait for shipping. I do inspect before I buy.

Wow so not only is it a bootleg...it's a knock off. That's crazy!

This is very interesting. I used to use Natural Oasis a long time ago. I see it all the time in Beauty Max in Clinton and I never looked closely to see if it says New Oasis...they have big display of the product.

I have heard of the fake products. I think it got so bad, that the original product makers have placed disclaimers on their bottles saying that if you don't purchase it at a LICENSED salon, then it could be fake. I know at drugstore.com website they have disclaimers about the prodcut being authentic too. One thing the BSS started doing is putting in a fake salon, but never operating it. Has anyone noticed this....they have the chairs, bowls and stuff in the back so they can qualify to purchase salon products...but they never open the salon:nono:.

So I guess it is best to go to a REAL salon to get the high end products.

Yes, I have seen this. I have seen some tore up head woman working in the Korean BSS I was talking about. Doing braids. The owner out of the blue tried to get me to come to the salon. I politely declined, thinking yeah right, so y'all can jack me up!!! I have seen those fake me out salons though!! The way they juice us I would hate to hear their prices!!!!!:perplexed

The question I have about Sallys is: What do they do with the returns? I've returned things I have used and things I haven't. No one has ever asked me if I've used it or not. I always have to volunteer that info. That is why, if something is not sealed, I do a smell test and open things up to look at them before I buy them even there.

I have always wondered about this as well. I returned a bottle of shampoo that I had used twice to Ulta last week. Are they going to put it back on the shelf? Or send it back to the manufacturer?

Well i don't know about Sally's but when I worked in the mall i used to buy products from this little beauty store down the hall...But i can't really remember what i was returning(guess i buy too much:look:) anyway i asked her what she does with products that been open or used she said would send it back to the manufacturer and then they would replace those that been damage.

I went threw this episode recently with a Koren BSS down here that I always shop at. I was buying the Mizani relaxers from them, for the past 4 times that I've had it. The very first time I got it I noticed that the relaxer did not have a plastic film on it, just the cap. So when I went to ask about it, they told me that was the way it was sent. So I said okkkk?? seems a bit strange, but I got it anyway. Then on the last visit and relaxer that I got from them, I opened it and noticed that the creme had two different colors, like an off white and yellowish color. I went back to the store and showed them. But however, in the light at the store it all looked the same color. So at this point I thought I was tripping and of course so did they. Sooo I took it home and I used it, but made sure not to keep it on my head the usual time length. After washing it out, I noticed that my hair did not feel the same as it had the previous times. Right at that moment I wished that I had went with my first instinct.

So I visited a new BSS, and when I asked at about the Mizani and Affrim relaxer, she went behind the counter and pulled out the box they had actually been shipped in. I could clearly see the mailing label on the box, and it was directly from Avlon (for Affrim), and Mizani. They all had the plastic film cover and everything. I vowed then that I would never go back to that other BSS after that.

I can believe it. The last time I bought some moisturefuse, it just wasn't the same. I will stick with sallys and a couple of places online that I trust.

That's a shame! You walk out thinking you're getting a tub of Mizani Relaxer and for all you know it's Bantu :nono:

Okay this thread is feeding my paranoia. I ordered the Butter Blend relaxer from an online site the other day and got it on Thursday right before I went out of town. I unwrapped it and there was relaxer on the outside of one of the tubs. Okay that was a little 'spicious. I checked everything out but I don't know what it should smell like. Both tubs of relaxer were sans plastic seals. I don't know what to think now.:ohwell:

Where did you purchase the Butter Blend?

When I read the statement about the plastic film I too was thinking about the times I purchased Mizani and I don't recall the plastic film.....but that was almost 1 1/2 years ago tho. I just use Silk Elements now.

I don't shop at the Asian bss anymore anyway. Don't have a need since I purchase online, Whole Foods, Traders Joe's, and etc.

I got it online from Payne's Beauty supply. There was a thread on the Butter blend mizani a week or so ago and this was the only place that had it so far.

This is the reason i dont shop at local BSS often.. I have my own bones to pick about the shady "customer service" being followed and whatnot at the Asian spots... 2 years ago, i started goint o an African owned BSS for little things here and there like rollers, fine toothed combs, mirrors, etc. I like to buy my higher end hair products directly from the company or a black owned online BSS.

IMO the internet BSS are more reliable and can be held more responsible.

I think HoneyDew got her Butter Blend from there as well. You may want to ask her about her shipment.

What places do you use? It would be nice to have a section of where to buy authentic products.

I would think they'd send it back to the manufacturers, but then again I do remember old and partially damaged products for sale in a discounted basket in the store. I wonder if that's what they do with them. :ohwell:

I did an internship in Atlanta a few years ago and there was this Chinese owned BSS I use to frequent. Whenever I bought my usual name brand products from them and applied it to my hair I noticed the chemicals would react a little differently than normal. Later I found out that in the back of this BSS they mixed up their own batch of chemicals and other products and put them back into their original Name brand containers. My cousins found this out when they accidently left the backdoor open to their "kitchen". Have any of you ladies experienced this?

:lachen::lachen:That is funny!

Sad...but funny. smh. I am mad at them for that one!:nono:

I can believe it. People do some outrageous stuff. I bought some Elasta QP conditioner from a Korean beauty Supply, and it was very watery. Nothing like I remembered. I few weeks later I bought the same product from Sally's, and it was thick and creamy like it was suppose to be. I will be very careful when buying from them.

Of topic but similar - I found out my ex hairstylist would buy a big container of a really good conditioner and shampoo, and when it ran out, he would fill the brand name containers with cheap dollar store stuff. Every week I would pay an extra $10 for a Mizani deep conditioner and I never got it. He was putting some crappy instant conditioner on my hair and putting my under the dryer. He had me fooled big time. According to my mother in law, who is an ex stylist, this happens often.

Yes this a common practice a while back this lady who was popular with hair stylist said this happens a lot.

See, that's why I don't go to salons anymore.

I noticed that the Breakthru Shampoo I bought from an Asian BSS was very very watery .. Aint Been Back there since

Dang, you can't even feel comfortable thinking your getting a good deal on hair products. I was totally in the dark about this bootlegging of hair products.

You really just have to be careful, I guess. I know this girl who bottle a bottle of Infusium 23, didn't like it b/c she said it made her hair crunchy, so homegirl put water in the bottle to make up the weight for the the amount she used, and brought it right back to good old wal mart who accepts just about any return:naughty:..and y'all know they put it right back on the selves too..I feel bad for the person who bought that bottle!

I posted information about this same thing in a thread about supporting non-Black BSS. I was informed of this by my nail-tech. Her sister worked in a salon that was Asian owned and told her about things that they do. From nail polish to detergents to soap to nail arcylics to purses. They reproduce everything and go around to other salons and go through their garabage to pull out containers with the brand names on them to put their own products in so that people will think that they are using brand name products. Watch out people when you're going to these Asian owned establishments.
