DHT Blockers

Can anyone suggest DHT blockers they have taken that were successful. I am fighting hereditary receding hairline loss. I am desperate to stop it before I lose all of the front of my hair. I think the DHT blockers, oral or topical may be the answer.

Shen Min and Saw Palmetto are DHT blockers. I've never taken Shen Min before so I don't know how effective it is. I have Saw Palmetto but I'm not consistent with it.

Have you talk with your doctor about this before? He/She may be able to give you more information about treatments.

Like some one mentioned earlier, Saw Palmetto is a DHT blocker, i used to take it with good results, it definetely slowed my hairloss, also, now i have a precription pill called spirolactone, i am bad about taking it so i cant say if if works or not. you might want to do some research on the internet about saw palmetto and spirolactone.

Saw Palmetto worked for me when I used to take it a couple of years ago. I now take a hair vitamin that includes it called Therapro Hair Gain. The bottle says "Natural DHT Inhibiting Complex for Healthier Hair Growth."

I've been using castor oil on my edges and it has helped. The PJ in me went to a BSS the other day even though I didn't need anything. I saw a display for Groganics DHT Blocker the other day in a bss. I bought the Topical Scalp Treatment today. I went to the website http://www.groganics.com/index.html and saw that they also have a gel. I didn't see that in the store . Keep you posted on the results

Uhh, what is DHT?

Dihydrotestosterone is a steroid produced by the body that causes hair loss. It causes male-pattern baldness in men and if women have too much DHT we can be affected as well.

The Nioxin System states that it gets rid of DHT. It is a shampoo and conditoner and a liquid treatment designed for thinning hair. Maybe you can try that.

Yes, I have used Nioxin for years. It is one of my staple products that I always use. I had severe hairloss a long time ago and the hair care specialist I went to suggested it and it worked. Nioxin helped my scalp to recover and regrow hair in that areas that were damaged.

BTW, the product at Sallies is a "generic" brand for Nixoxin... The real line is only sold at beauty shops/hair dresser salons or Trade Secrets or online. I have never tried the Sally's generic brand but they could be ok.

I am all natural and I used the Bionutrients for Chemically treated hair (I have color) NO RELAXER due to sensitivity. A bad allergic reaction to relaxers caused my hair loss so I can't use them. Try the shampoo, scalp therapy and scalp treatment. Also if the area is very thin, you can try their follicle booster which works well for me. Note, it's is expensive line -- I think the starter kit is $30 and the Follicle Booster (sold seperately) is about $18-28 depending on where you go to get it.

You could almost see thru her hair (if you know what I mean) but now it's really filled in nicely! I was impressed!

The hairs are very low, but at least there is hair there. This is after only 2 weeks. I hope it continues!!! I am still looking for any suggestions to help hair growth. Thanks

There really hasn't been any proven scientific evidence to show that Saw Palmetto works BUT people swear by it. I took it briefly when I was diagnosed with alopecia. My derm prescribed spironolactone to fight the DHT and so far so good. I've had no side effects, its covered by insurance and one great side effect, weight loss!

I just got some of this. I read that polysorbate 80 is a good pre-shampoo scalp treatment.

Massage it in and leave it on for 5 min before shampooing, one site instructed. I got it online from Vitamin World.

Also, when I was reasearching how MN helps hair grow faster I learned that the active ingredient in Nizarol products, Ketoconazole, another antifungal, acts as a DHT blocker. That may be why so many people get fast growth when applying MN on their scalps.

I used to take a supplement that has Saw Palmetto in it. My hair and nails really grew fast when I was taking it. I stopped because it made me gain weight. I don't think it was the Saw Palmetto, though. It is a supplement to help firm your breasts. My boobs did get bigger, but only because after 2 or 3 months on it, I gained weight. My hair and nails were cranking out though.

phillygryl, thanks for starting this thread. lately my thinning has increased. i have been researching Viviscal, Nioxin, Provillus, Rogaine, you name it. i bought Minoval and used it all up and saw some peach fuzz come thru but the bottle is too friggin small. i am sure you have been everywhere online, but i went to www.hairvitamins.net, and they carry a lot of the DHT Blockers the ladies have already mentioned.

you should try therapro products...I swear this line is great...my stylist uses it on a regular basis...I use the strength and volume and one or two of the shampoos.

I was reading about a product called Regeneplex Direct. It claims to be all natural. The ingredients include DHT Blockers such as : saw palmetto and beta sitosterol. It comes with oral gels, a topical serum, shampoo, conditioner, and a volumizer.

Thing is, it is mad expensive. I am still confused 'cause there are so many products claiming to help with thinning.
