Do any of you ladies go this long without washing your hair? I want to give my hair a break by giving it a good wash, protein treatment and conditioner. Put it in one plait, pin it up and forget about it for 2 weeks. No wig, just spritz it a little, add a little coconut oil and be on my merry way. My hair needs a break and so do I. Is this a good or bad idea?

PS...I don't own a wig, but I am tempted to purchase the mommie wig I saw on you tube for the winter:look:

There is an older thread I think its was titled How often do you wash your hair? I think you may find that a helpful thread. It ranges from daily washers to monthly washers.

janeemat, Yup, Sho nuff! I used to wash every week, to the day! But I've realized, with my hair, less is more! My strands are "EXTREMELY" Fragile, when wet! So I don't wash that often at all, and I've retained more length that way! Every 3 weeks, if that! And no, my hair don't stank, I would never let it get like that!
But hey, I'm pretty near my goal. So I say, It works for me, say what you will!

It might be good for you if your hair doesn't hold scents. I have to wash mine every 1-2 days or it'll stink and stick to my head plus I cook highly odorous foods.

My problem would be itchy scalp before the 2 week are up I'm sure. I should not have much build up since I will be spritzing with water.

Back in the day when I was uninformed and uneducated about black hair :nono:, I thought water dried black hair out, so I would only wash my hair like once a month. :yep: I know I know but this was some years ago and I didn't know. I never had any problems with it though cause my hair grew waist length with no problem but I was susceptable to thin ends and this was due to dryness. When I finally discovered that water WAS good for black hair and I needed to get the CORRECT hair products, I changed everything. I now co-wash my hair every other day and clarify/chelate once every Sunday. My hair feels amazing!

I think it's all about how you care for and nourish your hair. You could be a once a month washer but use the right products and still have great hair. It all depends on you and what your hair likes. Of course nowadays, the thought of washing my hair once a month grosses me out. I love washing it now. It's so relaxing!!!! :drunk:

I need not wash that often, but my hair too holds odors and I don't like odd smells. I'm only using good smelling items and less oils during the week except camellia so that I can go longer without washing. Hair perfume works well also.

Just went two Weeks myself. My twists look fuzzy but it's from new growth! Every two Weeks works for me

I think 2 weeks is not that bad.you dont even have to limit yourself to one style. You can wear your hair loose the first week and up the second.

I think i may go 2 weeks too but i just love the smell of freshly washed hair.

I plan on washing only once a month til March. I signed up for all of these challenges that I just can't live up to. my hair is not long enough for a ponytail but its too long to be considered a twa. So I've decided to braid wash, dc with steam, oil rinse, and then braid it up, once a month. The other alternative was getting a weave but that leaves me with a sore scalp for months. i may buy a wig but as long as the braid style is cute, I won't feel rushed to buy one.

Well I just washed and conditioned my hair. I allowed it to air dry for a bit and now it is in one plait and pinned under. It's nice and slick since I'm just about 2 weeks post relaxer. I'm not working the rest of this week and I don't have any weekend plans, so I'm just going to leave my hair alone for now.....hopefully for 2 weeks.

I was trying to work up tp 2 weeks for the same reason, less manipulation. But I realize that I like the ritual of washing my hair too much, and now that I have a steamer, lawks, I cant wait until wash day :(

I can only do it when I'm in braid/twist extensions. I can go 2.5-3.5 weeks without washing. I'm not sure whether my hair responds well to the infrequen washing or if it's the fact that it had not been manipulated much.

I really consider this sometimes. I used to do every 10 days and IDK why I stopped. It just seems like that all this extra stuff that is supposed to be beneficial to hair is outweighed by the actual manipulation it takes to do it. That is why I stopped moisturizing and sealing. Aint no way playing in my hair every night is good for it.

I now wash twice or three times a week, but used to only wash about once a week (cowash every day, shampoo on the weekend). The more I learn about my hair, the more I change... I find that my scalp gets build-up easily and once a week isn't enough. Try it out though! You'll never know if it will work for you until you do.

1 week and hair is still in a nice smooth plait twisted in a bun:look:. I know I can last until Saturday, but until next Wed to make it 2 weeks:drunk:. We will see if I don't get the itches. But I am enjoying giving my hair this break.

^^^*subsribing* I would like to try washing less. When I joined LHCF, I started cleansing my scalp frequently (2-3 times a week) because it was dry, itchy, and flaky...basically, I had dandruff. With the help of pre-pooing with essential oils, that went away.

My scalp is now completely healthy...no flakes, no dandruff, and it rarely itches. Actually, it never itches. I give myself an occassional scalp massage just because it feels good. I went for two weeks without washing while I was studying for the bar exam. I just had it in French braids. I got my hair blown out on Saturday (Oct. 1st) and I'm experimenting to see how long I can go without washing it again. It's been 4 days...no itch, no smell. I've been moisturizing and sealing once a day.

I am trying to wait that long or maybe a week I am waiting for my new order of shampoo and conditioner from devacurl and I don't want to wash until then because I want to use it as soon as it gets here plus for the winter I am not doing wash and gos I want to do ponytails and pull backs or something and I don't need fresh hair for those syles.

I'm entering my 3rd week. :look:

ETA: i'm wearing mini twists which i learned a while ago should never be thoroughly washed (tangles times a million). I moisturize, even lightly spritz but not washing.

oddly, my hair grows like weeds like this. i fully expect to be MBL or longer by Christmas.

I wash every two weeks. Partly bc I think my hair likes it. I have fragile hair, so thats less manipulation. Also it allows my hair to build up its natural oils. My hair seems less dry than it did when I was washing weekly.

Plus, my wash day routine and detangle process is sooooo time consuming, I do not want to have to go through that weekly.

I do however, always make sure to spray my hair with water about every 3 days before I apply moisturizer.

I've been thinking about going back to weekly however and seeing how my hair reacts bc I do like having a clean fresh scalp. I

ts different than back in the day (old school press n curl) when i was getting my hair washed every other week; back then water was avoided like the plague and only thing that touched my hair b/t washes was grease.

Honestly, my hair really does not itch like it did before I started taking care it. I too was pooing 3 times a week when I started my journey, but now it's twice a week. I think adding the oils and all of the moisturizing during the week has helped me with my itches.

I'm hoping that I get positive results from less manipulating. Maybe my hair will grow like weeds. Last night I mist my hair with Chi Keratin Mist. I moisturized my edges with Jane Carter nourish and shine and then applied some oil. I did this also to the last 4 inches or so of plait and tucked it back under.

When my hair is in mini twists I don't wash for the whole 2-3 weeks and my hair is fine. I don't have any odor to it. Also when my hair straight I don't wash for 2 weeks and my hair is fine. I don't have a naturally oily scalp and I don't sweat in my head.

I find it interesting that I came across this thread. I was just asking my friend literally two days ago if I could wait two weeks to wash my hair. I've been keeping my hair in two French braids for the past few months and if I could extend my washes to every two weeks it would really help keep my hands out of my hair. I say go for it!

I haven't put anything on my hair/scalp except oil and moisturizer since September 30. So far, I get the itchies in certain places that always itch regardless of whether or not my scalp is clean so I suppose it's ok. I massage every other night with castor and jojoba oil. I put Vatika Frosting or jojoba on the length before going to bed. A little moisturizer on the length in the morning followed by jojoba and I'm on my way. I hate when my hair is greasy feeling and my scalp doesn't tolerate product build up very well. But so far, I thinking can go another week without washing. I'm just addicted to DCing so it's hard to control myself. I wanna DC!!!!
