I LOVE IT!! My mom uses it and I tried some of hers first a while back, then I saw this thread from bebezazueta that reminded me of it.

OK I am really fighting the urge :angeldevi to trim off 1/4" like I usually do to keep my swang rocking & growing fast. (It seems that way to me) I did have to go after a few splits :darkcloud:that were higher up from the hairs in my crown...I plan to henna this wknd (I hadn't done it in awhile). My ends are still pretty even at the bottom but ya'll know how FRESH a fresh trim looks and oooooh:freakout: I want it but I don't want to want it.:lachen::lachen:
I'm trying to be good...:fallenang (not yet)
 
Hiya ladies. Gadgetdiva that shine is very nice. I'm glad I decided to braid my hair because I have HiH so bad I need a whoopin.

My daughter had her hair flat ironed for her birthday and it was soooo hard for me to not straighten my hair "just to check". So I braided it all up to save it from me.

I've noticed quite a few lead hairs, and those are the ones I play with and break off. Here's hoping the braids will give my fore runners the chance to pave the way to length for the rest of my hair.

Here's some more proof that we should be patient with our hair. It is not unusual for our hair to grow unevenly and if we want to achieve longer lengths and your ends are NOT damaged, leave those hairs alone unless it's to search & destroy or eliminate SSK's (for us naturals)! Once you reach your goal, that is if you have a goal, then go ahead and feel free to even things up.

In the meantime, leave them be!!

DO NOT CUT THE LEAD HAIRS. My journey from 2007 until 2010. You'll notice that my hair color starts to get lighter as the Bigen black wears off LOL. Anyway - here they go:

10.2010 (This is blow-dried hair so sorry - no straightened pics for this month but can update when I straighten again. I think you guys can get the idea though, hopefully.)

Always keep in mind that you will ALWAYS have lead hairs. So basically whenever you get your hair trimmed or, in some cases cut, new hairs will take up the "lead hair" torch and you'll once again see uneven growth.

DO NOT CUT if you're trying to grow it out!

LynnieB your pictures are truly inspirational. I've always been encouraged to "even things up." But, I think I'm just going leave my hair be and see what happens.

So many of us want to grow it but wind up missing our goals by snipping away all our progress. Growing it longer really is a long term commitment and we can certainly reach our goals with lots of TLC and a couple (or few) years of patience.

Yes, leave it be - get yourself some nice hair rollers and pretty clips and pins. Roll those lead hairs up so they blend in with the rest or just keep up with the updos and low manip. styles.

You can do it, I know you can!!!
 
LynnieB ~ You've really made me think about posting more pictures for proof and encouragement. I will start doing so when I texlax in Jan. Here is a picture from last week and if you look at the bottom of my ponytail you can see some of the lead hairs I have now.

I wish you would. LHCF (ALL hairboards actually) need to see proof of which you speak. It's one thing to see this stuff crawling down your back while your at home alone and it's just you and your mirror and you're thinking how crazy it all is. It's something else entirely when see the benefits of the craziness on someone else's head and you really aren't alone at all.

Post the pics - please. Inspire!
 
Now I've read through the entire thread and would like to join the challenge. Even when my hair was longer, I was always cutting to make it even. My nape grows like a weed. But, my sides and crown are slower. I've always been encouraged to get a blunt cut to add weight to my fine hair. Following this advice, I've never been able to get past APL.
 
I'm in. I know I have lead hairs. Now I will dust or search and destroy - but, after reading Chicoro's book, I give my slower hairs time to catch up with my lead hairs. That sista explained it all and with the beautiful mane on her head, please - I only cut what is split (which is easy for me since I am a constant protective styler/baggier anyway). Needless to say again, I'm all in. Smooches!
 
I recently had to S & D but my bottom ends in the back and sides are in good shape so far so I left them alone.

I'm happy I found this thread. I'm totally in.

I'm trying to grow out layers. And of course, my longest layer (lead hairs) be looking mad see-through but I'm going to hang on until my other layers catch up.
 
I'd like to join this one as well. I've always trimmed my hair when it was close to my goals, and I haven't trimmed since April and I'm glad because I'm actually reaching BSL. One side of my hair is longer though and in the past I would've been tempted to trim it. I'm going to wait because I'm beginning to notice a pattern in my hair. It fills in at some lengths and then my lead hairs drop and the rest start to fill in. Before I would trim the hairs that dropped and that stunted my retention. I need to be more patient. Great thread.
 
Giving myself a lil trim this coming week. Then I'll be able to see what lead hairs I got, and what hairs are demonic splits, lol.

I'll post a "starting" pic after I get rid of some damage so I can better display where my lead hairs are now.
 
Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of split ends while on the lead hair challenge? I have a few, but because my hair is uneven, and im trying to let my lead hairs be, I imagine my usual method of clipping off the tips of my twists would only result in me clipping off lead hairs and potentially leaving splits on the shorter strands. Ironically, the ends of my lead hairs seem to be in great shape, too. Should I just wait until it's more even?
 
@helixhoney...I employ the search and destroy method and that way, I am only taking off what is absolutely necessary...Though S&D can be time consuming...I think it's definitely worth it!
 
I also do the search and destroy. But I do it over a couple of days. I section my hair in 4 quadrants. I try to complete at least 1 quadrant in each session that way I have an idea of what I have or havent done. I need to do a S&D soon because it has been awhile. SOOOOO LAZY lately:) HTH
